La Sportiva G2 + G5 Evo

The G2 and G5 EVO take a lot of the technology from the recently redesigned Olympus Mon. A new gaiter, without any sewing or seams, it is lighter, more comfortable and more durable. The Boa lock provides a good, even fastening. The internal gusset will be of interest to all British users, as that aids the boot’s water repellency, as will the beefy sole unit (lots of grip for those muddy banks!). Spec-wise the G5 is more Scottish and Alpine, whereas the G2 is more Himalayan.

I have the G2 evos and hiked once with them with crampons. There is this little uncomfortable plastic piece that inhibits top of the foot articulation and hurts like anything! Is there anyway to change that/get rid of it/suggestions? Or has anyone else had that problem?

Ordinarily I'd be able to get feedback from one of our review team, only we never reviewed the G2 Evo. We did, however, review the G5 Evo, although sadly I don't think that'll be of great help given that it's a different model! It's probably best to watch the video for an answer to this question, but in short: the G5 is warmer than the G2.

Like every other boot you've ever worn: wear them around the house initially, then begin to wear them outside. Obvioulsy shorter days to begin with are best, but providing they fit you shouldn't (hopefully) have too many problems on longer days after that.
