By now, we all know that the criminal underworld is always eager to leave its stamp on hip-hop and while many artists come into the game with ties that they can’t shake off, others seem to inadvisably seek them out. In certain areas, there is also the prospect that you’re going to get pressed for any valuables you might have on you.

But in recent years, one place has emerged as far more treacherous than anywhere else in LA. That's not always true, and I say that as someone who's from the Bay and briefly lived in LA. In many cases, it might be the dude who claims to be gangsta just so he can appear to have paid his dues. But that's not always the case. There have been plenty of artists who don't associate themselves with anything gang related and still get extorted. Hell, MC Hammer was not only unaffiliated with any gang but had the most squeaky clean public image in rap. But that didn't stop some Crip nıggas from trying to shake him down back in the day.
