I'm currently attempting to upgrade my natural diamond 3/4 carat, vs2, color D, GIA certified princess cut diamond. I paid $2,700 for it and was only offered $1,000 by a jeweler😬. Still have it and looking around for the best way to sell it to recoup more of what I originally paid. Suggestions?

@@CBNX7 Unfortunately thats the way it goes. Diamonds are not an investment. You can always try to sell privately using facebook marketplace, ebay, offer up etc. It may take you a long time to sell. Fast cash but less or a little more cash but wait a long time. No great answer.

Enough with the "laboratory made diamonds have no resale value" circus. Financial problems are one of the leading causes of divorce. Take the cost of a mined diamond, buy a nice laboratory made diamond similar in size and quality to a mined diamond for a fraction of the price, and invest the difference in a good mutual fund. You'll thank yourself 10 years later; and if your partner doesn't thank you, then be glad you didn't blow your wad on a mined diamond. If you have to buy a mined diamond in exchange for someone's love or forgiveness, then you don't need a jeweler; you need a therapist.

I think a new girlfriend would do better than a therapist 😂 but yes I agree 1000% with you. Jewellers are smart, they’re trying to advertise it as being able to get a diamond 5x the size for the same price. But really what they’re doing is trying to convince you to still spend the same amount of money. But what you should do is exactly what you said. Buy the same size diamond you were going to & save astronomically.

Both natural and lab grown diamonds have horrible resale values. It’s like asking someone, “do you want me to break both your legs or just one of your legs?”. I will only buy lab grown now because I learned years ago that natural diamonds are a huge scam. I was engaged to be married but things fell through. Not anyone’s fault, things just didn’t work out as we had planned. Well, I had the hardest time trying to sell that natural diamond engagement ring. Spent months listing it on FB, Craig’s List, eBay, etc. I finally just took it to a pawn shop and sold it for $400. I had originally bought it for around $4000. Complete fucking bullshit. There is no resale value for diamonds, natural or lab grown. The only way that buying a diamond could be an “investment” or have resale value is if you bought a extremely rare diamond or if that diamond has coveted provenance. No one cares about your 1 carat diamond that you bought from Kay Jewelers. Those are a dime a dozen and jewelers aren’t gonna pay used retail prices when they can get it for wholesale. Pennies on the dollar.

So that no resale is bs. I'm one of those from the beginning of your vid who has wanted a huge diamond for 30+ years but was out of my budget. Well, no more. Hannes Beck.. Here's a different idea you didn't factor. You put that money that you saved on the ring into the mortgage and you pay off the house 2-3 years earlier if you are buying 1.5-2 carats. With that extra money you invest once the mortgage is cleared, it will return the amount of value invested back in 5 years. You make money while De Beers manipulation of the market by withholding the stones to inflate the value of the Tonnes of rocks sitting in storage, being drip fed to 5+ middle men touching them before you do. The gig is up I'm afraid.

If lab grown diamonds are the same as mined diamonds in every other way but resell value, what is the problem with buying lab grown? If you use it as a family heirloom to be passed down through generations you have no business being worried about resell value. You shouldn't buy things with the understanding that you will need to sell it to a pawn shop. The fact that there is no resell value is a plus it means no one can take something that has been in the family for generations to a pawn shop to pay their electric bill. Lab Grown Diamonds Rock! The thing is, experts can't see with the naked eye if it is lab grown or not. Lab grown and mined look identical. You need some kind of special machine which can see a very slight difference. Only a jewellery brand will hint to someone if the diamonds in the particle kind of jewellery is lab grown or not. Plus, diamonds in general aren't rare. Every other person has diamonds, diamonds are everywhere, world wide...

1. You don’t buy a diamond to resell it. 2. Nobody knows if it is a lab or natural diamond when you resell it, a lab diamond tests positive as a real diamond because it is. 3. Hello and thanks for commenting and the birthday wishes. Typically yes I think of clarity SI 1 you’re pretty much good to go. It won’t crack, it’s not an imitation diamond. It’s 100% a real diamond with all the beauty and chemical property of mined diamonds. Jewelers won’t touch them bc they want to make ppl believe that what they have is valueless/fake/synthetic and what the jeweler has is authentic/valuable when in fact you paid 40-50% less for the exact same diamond he’s offering. It’s a mind game, it’s called sales and marketing. It’s how giving a Diamond engagement ring became the norm, through marketing. Facebook marketplace. Offer up. You don’t need to be an expert. When you buy lab it comes certified. It’s as simple as Listing what you bought. It’s really not that hard. Going to a pawn shop means they are offering you 20% of your diamonds value. Natural or not. Selling is a losing game.
@FourClover713
@FourClover713 Жыл бұрын
@ThatGuyOsiris Again your logic is flawed people that sell on Facebook marketplace offerup always meet somewhere to authenticate what they are selling they will more than likely meet at a jewelry store or pawn shop to verify the item which again requires the use of diamond testers as most people they encounter will simply just use that as a means of authentication once it tests as moissanite everyone is confused and more than likely a sale would not occur lab grown diamonds have 0$ in resale value in most circumstances when it comes to the public.
@OsirisDiamonds

@@FourClover713 one, not all lab diamonds test that way. Two all labs are inscribed on girdle and come with paperwork. That’s what they need. Also my video showed an actual sale where they got a decent amount back. Hence proof that it’s possible. FYI my friend has been trying to sell her natural for years. She paid 10,000 and only gets 1,500 offers. My point is it’s a losing game any way you slice it. Which makes the resale argument so much weaker.

Someone is not going to purchased a lab diamond from a jeweler who’s going to mark it up when they can buy that same lab diamond online for less. Jewelers made so much money on the makeup of natural diamonds that they hate lab diamonds and try to recommend against them but lab diamonds are in fact the same as man made

They are a rip off because they don't test as diamonds where natural diamonds test as diamonds they don't tell you this in this video but I'm sure you heard about it when you where trying to sell them unfortunately lab grown diamonds test as moissanite and most businesses run away from moissanite as when it came out lots of businesses lost tons of money on moissanite and it's practically the same concept nobody wants to pay diamond prices for something that's not a diamond you can say it is all you want but a lab grown test as a moissanite because of the chemical compound its made of

If you foresee a need to sell a diamond then you don't need to be buying a diamond. And if you do decide to sell your diamond you won't get shit for it whether it's lab or natural. So just do the ethical and frugal thing and buy the indistinguishable lab grown diamond for a fraction of the price. This is coming from someone who's worked in the diamond industry for 8 years

Thank you for the great information and the wonderful videos. I am learning a tremendous amount. In my mind, I’m thinking the difference between lab grown diamond and natural mined diamonds can be equated to the same as a wrist watch being in either automatic movement or a quartz movement. The quartz movement may be even more precise, as they always are but significantly less expensive! However the collectors and those who feel the true beauty of watchmaking is important, only by an automatic movement! These are significantly more expensive and brings more resale value as well! The challenge becomes educating and persuading your partner that she’s not missing out anything in the lab grown diamond in terms of quality and sparkle, and it might even be a better decision in terms of being green and saving money. But in her mind will she equate this to, “wait-you would buy an automatic watch for your self; but when it came to me you bought me a quartz movement?!!

Tell an IVF baby that they are not really a human being and that they too are fake. Lab Grown diamonds will have no resale value in future. Production costs for HPHT grown diamonds in China are currently eight usd per carat averaged across all sizes, cvd production is costs little more. Like all new technology it is a race to the bottom. It will likely become the new stone of choice to go for fashion jewellery eventually. Production is theoretically unlimited. Lab Grown is the opposite of scarce, the opposite of true luxury.

This is a man’s ring woman are getting ripped off with a single stone setting it should not cost more than 800 bucks for a decent engagement ring

Why not just buy the pre owned lab created diamond? You pay $1668 and sell it with inflation adjustment probably $2000 in 15 years. All the proposed scenarios are lose money. Why be the first buyer who sells later at a loss. Why not buy from the first guy selling at a loss, and come close to break even later. Let’s not even talk about people buying the $9000 ring on credit. I remember growing up and people saying jewelry were investments I had to laugh cause no one ever sold it for more than what they paid. Then they do the $12,000 ring on sale for $9,995 which is so gimmicky. Always wondered how suckers came to having this kind of money to blow, and still be doing better than others. Later I figured out most of these people got high flash and high credit card debt.

Do your homework on what you want and search around and find what you like. Your not looking to please others just yourself. So anyone that tells you what you need should pony up the money to buy it or shut up.

Some will say a loss of $1900 others will say a savings of $5,000. All relative and depends on the buyer's situation. I agree, moissanite is an alternative that you can also argue has no resale but is cheaper. At least lab diamonds are in fact chemically and optically the same. as someone who spent a boat load on a really nice two carat real diamond I kinda hate this personally. It’s like the most important thing is now perception and not reality. Just like people buying houses 4 times their yearly salary with practically nothing down on a 30 year loan and being house poor so they can appear as if. you clearly can’t afford it, just be real with your life and expectations, it’s cool. I also say that as someone who makes over 200 a year combined and bought my house for 375 on a 15 year loan with 40% down so i’m not being a poser and not taking my own advice 🤷🏻‍♂️
