Well actually the composer of Ghost in the Shell was looking for "something in a Bulgarian style" (his words) Finally he used a choir who sings in Medieval Japanese, but you can clearly hear the Bulgarian influence... so what you think as "Japanese choir" is really Bulgarian-style choir
