The Jinhao nibs (I find) are sometimes inconsistent, and very dry. But after a bit of adjustment, they often improve (shimming with a brass sheet, etc.) Sometimes pressure works, but it's not as effective. Of course, the ultimate fix is to put a different nib in it. I have a few Jinhao's with Goulet (sometimes broads or mediums) in them.

I may need to purchase some Goulet nibs as a few people have recommended them!

My Jinnah 100 writes beautifully, one of the best writers I own and even better than some expensive pens. But, it is a medium nib.

I think my other one is a medium but the size isn’t labeled on the nib. I might switch it out

Am I correct that the Jinhao nib is Chinese? If so, it will write finer than the Laban (which is a German nib). Asian nibs are *ALWAYS* finer than European nibs. Also, you write SUPER fast, so that Jinhao, being an *actual* EF, just can't keep up with you (no shame, I'm a fast writer, as well. I don't do anything less than a medium). If you like the Laban EF, you probably need a M in Chinese/Japanese nibs. Did you know Goulet's site has a Nib Nook? You can compare the nib you like to ones you're thinking of getting so you know if it's the right size for you. It's limited, of course, to the brands they carry. But you could find similar ones made in those countries to get an idea. As far as troubleshooting: did you flush the pen with plain water when you first got it, before inking it the first time? If not, I recommend trying that (always recommended with any new pen, actually). If that doesn't work, take out the nib unit and insert it again to make sure it's aligned correctly. Do the tines look aligned? If you don't have a loupe (doesn't sound like it), maybe you could zoom in with your phone and get a general idea? As far as not having micromesh: use a plain ole brown paper grocery bag. Do the figure 8s on it like you would the mesh. Works like a charm, and it's free 😉 The one Jinhao I have () writes like butter. If you want to still write with the Jinhao, and the above didn't work, you could put another nib on it. They take a Size 6. Goulet makes their own (I swear I don't work for them), or use a JoWo #6 (also German made). (Side note: You said "Plain White Tee" and I immediately got that gosh awful song of theirs stuck in my head. 🎶 Hey There Delilah 🤜🏻🥴)

This comment is everything! Yes, you are correct about the Japanese versus German nibs. I definitely did flush it but will try the paper bag trick. I have no experience with changing nibs but I might need to learn! I have another jinhao 100 that I think has a medium nib so I might swap it out before this experience is over.

Jinhao nibs are very inconsistent and I usually just swap out the nibs.

I am nervous to swap nibs but I need to rip off that bandaid

@@thejoyinpensandpaper890 Don't be nervous. It's better to start with an inexpensive pen like a Jinhao before delving into swapping out the more expensive ones.

Do you mind sharing what nib you used in the swap? I have a few jinhao 100 and I like them a lot but would like to see how another nib performs in them.Thank you!

I have a couple Jinhao 100's and I have one that writes good, one I had to work the nib and another that I had to swap the nib because no matter what, it was awful. I think it's the luck of the draw if you get a good nib or not. I have several Jinhao Pens and it's the same with all their nibs.
@thejoyinpensandpaper89011 ай бұрын
Which is unfortunate - especially for someone who is newer to this hobby. If they get a bad nib that may turn them off from the hobby and then they’d be missing out
@Adventuresover4011 ай бұрын
@@thejoyinpensandpaper890 yes for sure. Hopefully they see reviews and know there are other less expensive options that don't have those issues.

I got the jinhao 100 classic on Amazon for under $20 and the Laban Rosa was from Goldspot Pens and I think it was around $140
