I had no idea SNES cartridges even had batteries. Now I have learned something today, and get get back to the black hole of KZbin distraction ;)

Totally! It keeps the memories alive - aka save files. If a battery dies, so do your characters. RIP my old Pokemons. You will be missed.

I've always heard that the battery has a 10 year lifespan, but I every single SNES game I own with a battery still has the original (date stamped) and still saves...Go figure.

By any chance are all snes cart universal from the inside? meaning any case can hold any game chip. I’m going to order some custom case ones and I was wondering if I’m going to have issues fitting the chips inside on the carts let me know thanks!
