I feel like Labi never really got the recognition he deserved, a truly fantastic singer-songwriter. I feel like if he was around a decade or two earlier he would have been known as one of the greats.
@shanemeadows18104 жыл бұрын
Decade or two later in my opinion. I also think he was born in the wrong country. He would have had much more success in the US. He's been sampled to death by American artists. He's like a Curtis Mayfield.

@@shanemeadows1810 Got to agree with you there. Still can't understand why his profile in the music industry never reached the heights it deserved. In the early 70's when Labi came on the scene we were bombarded with glam rock, phoney synthesizers and Osmonds. Shamefully the TV and radio broadcasters wrapped themselves up in this guff at the expense of talented singer/songwriters like Labi.

Labi Siffre played a couple of gig in the Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, over 20 years ago now. Both times the venue was packed and at the end he got a spontaneous standing ovation from the entire audience. One of the finest performers I have seen live. Such a lovely, modest man too.

SUBLIME!!!! I was just scrolling through my 'favourites' and this song came on. I am broken at the moment as my beautiful granddaughter took her life 7 weeks ago in a Mental Health Unit, we are struggling to keep the story 'national'.........listening to the words have boosted my resolve to keep on shouting for justice, no matter what is put in our way. #justiceforchristie

True, however those who know, know! Madness covered his song "Must be Love" and Eminem/Dr Dre sampled his song "I got the" which was used recently in an episode of "Better Call Saul", and this song was an anti apartheid anthem in the 80's. But I agree with your point he's sorely underrated/unknown.

@@KwekweKanye West also sampled «My song» for his song «I Wonder» and I imagine alot of real hip hop heads and music lovers know who Labi is. His contribution to music, albeit underrated by the general public, is probably recognized by alot of talented musicians in their own right.

Have you ever had a moment when a name just pops into your head, yet you have no idea why? That happened to me this morning. I have had a very difficult few days. I woke up crying. I had my breakfast and made a second cup of tea and the name, Labi Siffre came into my head. A name I have heard before, just no recollection of who. When I googled the name, this KZbin clip came up. Wow, what a beautiful song. One I am familiar with, just not heard for some time. I listened to every word, so very relateable. How do you explain that?
