I'm trying to figure out either species' anatomy. Does it have special appendages for the "cape"? Or are those part of its wings?

@AJKecsk4 жыл бұрын
That's actually intentional. The feathers are specifically structured to capture almost all light, reflecting back nearly none. This is why it appears textureless when you look at it. Regular black colors usually reflect a fair bit, allowing you to see their texture. People have recently figured out how to make this effect happen artificially - look up Vantablack.

02:06 How in the world did it evolve a neon yellow throat??
@debbiehenri71704 жыл бұрын
In the same way that all creatures evolve, in that a rare mutation takes place (be it a single neon yellow throat feather on this bird; the single white feather gracing each wing on a blackbird variant existing where I used to live, and the 'spectacled' Blue Tit variant that existed where I live now - until neonicotinoid pesticides wiped out these variants and nearly all the other songbirds). Some female birds will reject mutations in their prospective mates, but we have to thank the females of Papua New Guinea for the fact that they clearly relish them. Over generations, that one neon feather becomes 2, 4, 10 and more, the females driving the preferences for colour, form of the throat feathers, and the songs and dances the males perform. Indeed, they are the ones deliberately and subtly redesigning their kind. The Birds of Paradise are clearly derived from a family that naturally has a good deal of genetic instability, and we're fortunate to witness what has to be a point quite close to where the natural evolutionary process has begun to divide this species. I only hope we humans can finally clean up our act and put right the environment - so that birds like these can continue to evolve, progress, and astonish our distant descendants with new and equally beautiful plumage and displays.

Rare and beautiful bird 🐦
@keenbtf6 жыл бұрын
Was just learning about the color blue and how its not really a true pigment, which is really neat to see on this guy. The way the color changes based on the angle you see it from. Also for his tail though, it is so much blacker than the bottom of the feathers, which reminds me of vanta black. Have they examined the tail feathers to see them more closely at all?
@keenbtf6 жыл бұрын
There are some, but you are right, the vast majority aren't really blue! It definitely threw my mind for a loop when I was learning about it!

That bird dancing is really funny 😂😂 If only that bird isnt rare species I would pet one And the dancing that bird doing was similar to one of the cultural dance called 'Reog' in Java, east Indonesia. I think the Reog itself was inspired by that type of bird in 2 thousand years ago before it's only inhabiting in west Indonesia now.
