Absolutely love the content❤️I’m a junior in high school and I was looking into becoming a L&D nurse in the future☺️ Do you find it difficult to balance work and attend important events in your life? If so, do you have any tips on how to manage it all? I’m a bit curious since you happen to work night shifts.

thank you so much! ❤️ and I know you will be an excellent nurse! 😊 I definitely don't find it difficult as my schedule is super flexible, so if I know I have an important event coming up I will schedule myself off that night or the night before. If it's a last minute thing, I'll switch with a coworker! At first, it's a little difficult to find a balance, but you get the hang of it pretty soon. I made a video a short while ago explaining how I managed my time and relationships during nursing school and a lot of it definitely still applies today! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJnHiqivha6giJI

currently in nursing school and about to start pediatric clinical. Was wondering how you get passed the "dirty work" and if you think the job is worth all the stress that people talk about. I go thru bouts of anxiety worrying about if nursing is worth it.
@Romi_joy
@Romi_joy 4 жыл бұрын
I think that if you truly care about taking care of other people, the dirty work doesn't matter and your job is definitely worth it. You'll do whatever it takes to make sure that patient is healthy. However, there are some very GRUELING jobs that do a lot of hands on "dirty work" so to say, and if that isn't something you prefer there are a LOT of jobs out there that don't do any of that at all (i.e. clinics, nurse informatics, supervising positions, and lots of areas of women's health like antepartum, neonatal nurse). You don't have to do grueling work every day or even work bedside to feel like an RN, you are an RN regardless! Nursing school is hard and you may feel like quitting all the time, but once you get into a position you love/are passionate about, it will all be worth it ❤️

Hi Romi, you are such an inspiration to me! I would love to be a postpartum nurse later in the future :) I'm a freshman at my local community college and I recently applied to the nursing program. (I hope I get accepted!) I'm planning on getting my ADN, applying for a job, and then getting my BSN through an online program. What positions do you recommend applying for with an ADN? Thanks in advance!
@Romi_joy
@Romi_joy 4 жыл бұрын
That's amazing! I hope you get accepted and become an awesome PP nurse!😁 you can apply to any job you desire as long as in the description in doesnt say "BSN required". You can get pretty much any position with an ADN, but it may be slightly harder because some places prefer a BSN. It all depends on where you apply!!

Whenever you graduate from nursing school did you go straight into being an L&D nurse? Or did you have to get experience else where?

Hi there! I will be starting 7p-7a shift in a few months. How do you adjust on your days off? Are your 12’s all in a row? Thanks! ♥️
@Romi_joy
@Romi_joy 3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your position!!☺️ I absolutely loved nights but for me personally I couldn’t do 3 in a row cause I felt like I lived there all week and just worked, slept, then worked again and found that it was difficult to flip my schedule when I got home, and woke up at 3am a lot and couldn’t go back to sleep. What I found best for me was doing one on, then two at the end of the week or vice versa. That way, my body isn’t completely accustomed and I flipped back to day schedule much easier. I feel like that is what most of my coworkers do, but there are a few that prefer 3 in a row all the time!! Try out both and see how it goes, it’ll take a few months to get used to it and figure out what you like better. Good luck!!💓

How do you deal with the fact that the women are in terrible pain, are in a very vulnerable position both emotionally and physically, are crying and screaming ... How do you deal with a doctor who is not treating the patient properly? Trying to rush the labor, suturing tears without anesthetic ( the epidural has expired ) and the dr plain old doesn’t inject a local? How do you not freak out? I’d be sickened and furious at the same time. Do you have sympathy for the mom. Being so exposed and in such an embarrassing position while pushing? How do nurses handle the fact that you often cause pain when doing cervical checks. I’ve often wondered about these things ... I know I could not stand to see a woman suffer, I couldn’t stand by while she is getting stitches without anesthetic, is being coerced into interventions that aren’t necessary. Thank goodness there are medical professionals who can deal with the very intimate birth process.

We are trained to help those mamas focus their pain on breathing and do breathing exercises with them. We’re able to calm them down even when they are screaming at the top of their lungs and focus all of that that energy on pushing or breathing/applying counter pressure if they are not yet complete. We are nurses because we are patient advocates!! We do not turn off the epidural until all of the sutures are complete. If they went natural, the doctors I work with are extremely good about using lidocaine to numb them. I’ve never seen them not try to do it without but if they did we aren’t and shouldn’t be afraid to give them an earful and tell them NO and not to start until we get them that lidocaine. Definitely have sympathy for the mom!! That’s why it’s very important to establish trust and rapport with each momma so she feels comfortable as you are helping her deliver in such exposing positions. I’ve never had a mom feel embarrassed as I motivate and encourage them and remind them that everything we see is 100% natural and normal. We follow the mommas birth plan as much as possible and don’t force her to do something she doesn’t want (yes including cervical checks!) if she doesn’t want one, we won’t do it. The baby will come out eventually! Of course if there is an emergency we are more urgent about asking mom to make certain decisions etc but when that happens they trust us to be making the best decision. Awesome questions!!

@@Romi_joy Thank you for the very detailed and thoughtful response. So good to hear that times are changing and moms are given more respect and kindness. I have seen here on you tube and read on baby bumps sub Reddit of doctors stitching without lidocaine. I can’t stand it. Check out Channon Rose birth .. 3 rd degree tear.. epidural wasn’t working throughout her labor, the nurse told the male dr she had the lidocaine ready and he ignored her! He was an ass.
