Absolutely nothing wrong with renewables until the point where the gold plated grease nipples are attached, then it will become no longer affordable and less effective and less reliable. As just said the cost of aluminum production has sky rocketed, well the same applies to other energy intensive products. We have the nuclear material right here in our back yard, but Labor has refused to use it for decades due to there doctrine. All I can say, stupid Labor you have driven out industry at light speed, you have not helped further the overall prosperity of the Australian citizen. A costing of this magnitude to switch to Nuclear requires money and in particular, guarantee's! And as every day goes by, the costs increase. Those increases are from the renewables program as it is to expensive to manufacture in this country. Then of course there's the wages, which over a long period of time will go up. By a considerable amount. Blackout Bowen has not done any costings at all, so its like the pot calling the kettle black. What happens when the domestic market has to upgrade their renewables???? It is all linked together, labor has opened the floodgates of migration, when energy is to expensive to manufacture anything, there's not enough housing, cost of living has gone through the roof. And it all leads back to energy. Labor has already plunge Australia into unbelievable debt, of approximately a Trillion Dollars, and that's without the State and Local Councils/Shires! What really needs to happen is abandon anything to do with climate change (which is a lie anyway), Net Zero and renewables. Fire up all the power Station, if they're coal, so be it. Gas. Drive the price down for energy, get manufacturing going again! Rescue our environment from renewables! And for heavens sake, stop migration or limit it to only those that are needed for the new industries. Australia doesn't need anymore taxi drivers, Uber drivers, Menu log, or people that just sponge off the social Security benefits!

Can Chris Bowen release the modelling he has done on renewables and electric cars before commenting this must included the CO2 generated by the manufacture of the products and infrastructure (Power lines electronics batteries shipping from Chyna), the cost of ownership (eg maintenance of solar panels water and labor used) cost of destruction of the environment ( how many kolas will die) and farmland, the blight on regional scenery and my favorite the MTBF mean time between failure. When you do all this the best answer for electricity generation is Coal then Gas! But would I know!

You need to do some more research, we have had a reactor for years in Sydney, it even has a waste facility that has never been used. Most nuclear waste can be reprocessed for future use and storage is not an issue.
