CASG is full of civilians and not many have actual defence experience in any of the services . Civilians should be banned from any military purchases and ex military personnel with actual experience bought in with subject matter professionals to make strategic purchases. I have been on the other side of poor decisions made by DMO now CASG during my 30 plus years in the Army and it was generally civilians that made final decisions on equipment with limited input from soldiers.

If this is the standard of senior bureaucrats managing defence processes, we should all be alarmed. If more senators were paying attention to the Ukraine war and the ineffectiveness of all tech and the speed at which new tech is evolving they would be acutely aware the gov rep is telling him that the contract was cancelled as it was useless in this fast moving area. The senator would have scolded the government rightly so if gov spent money on useless tech and the contract was continued and crews died because of bad tech. Leaving money in the pot to hop onto evolving tech is a good option. If 5 Eyes gave Penny the Amsterdam brief then we are cooked and no longer sovereign.
