I first heard this as a record so it is interesting to see how the live musicians interact with the tape.

Wow...blew my socks off! Have to get the recording of this from the sixties with a bunch of jazzers in the ensemble (Michel Portal and Jean-François Jenny-Clarke, among others).

In that part, in that part of my memory, in that part of the book, in that part of the book of my memory incipit nova. She appeared dressed in noble colours, modest, pure, and sanguine: Ecce Deus fortior me: dominabitur mihi

Note to composer: When writing "Music of the Future", it might be a good idea if your central narrator does not look like he's just stepped out of a Fellini movie.

+Alan Page this piece of music is 50 years old... Even in '65, it was not music for the future, but present day music. At this time, Fellini was fully active... At last, what's wrong with Fellini?

Agence Oonops Er... were you not aware that under the leadership of Theodor Adorno, the generation of composers that included Berio were hell bent on replacing what Adorno branded kitsch (i.e. everything south of Webern) with this revolutionary way of composing that would become a universal language? I was just amused by the irony, Don't worry I like both Berio and Fellini.

I don't think Berio would have thought much of Adorno's self- (and German-) appointed leadership. He did tons of kitsch, as have all non-German composers throughout history. And his intellectual equals (not leaders) would have been Edoardo Sanguineti, Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino. None of that German obsession with der Zukunft. Interesting discussion, though, thanks for bringing it up!

Luciano Berio wrote this piece in 1965, when Fellini was fully active... Moreover, he composed present day music.
