A country where you can get a GP appointment. Anne here is thing. We all want to help refugees however it is clear the vast majority are not refugees but economic migrants. Why is it right for people from Albania for example to enter the country illegally and access government services. My wife is from New Zealand. So far we have spent in excess of £10k in visa fee etc and she is still not got her citizenship. At some we have to be honest about what is taking place. 95% of people arriving by boats are working aged men from safe countries. Even if you believe Albania is unsafe or has a low quality of life, you have to admit coming here from france claiming to be fleeing a war torn country is complete nonsense. 100% gaming the system and the generosity of the UK taxpayer
@tomtheeagle1
@tomtheeagle1 5 ай бұрын
@@chorleycc Apart from the fact that you are writing ill informed nonsense, you really should save your ire for those who are actually to blame for the obviously unfair treatment that you and your wife are getting and they are not refugees and asylum seekers.Well over 70% of asylum seekers are given leave to stay and of those that appeal, over 80% of them are then granted asylum status. The government, who are both immorally and illegally passing this vile bill are to blame for the state of the country and the post Brexit shit show that is our immigration system in general. Not the people fleeing war, persecution,. torture, famine, climate disasters and God knows what. Many of those problems they are fleeing are also our fault, especially in places like Iraq and Afghanistan
@eightiesmusic1984
@eightiesmusic1984 5 ай бұрын
@@chorleycc Evidence for your claim of 95%? Cite your source. A refugee and economic migrant are not the same but you have conflated them. There is an agreement in place with Albania for people who do not have the right to make a claim for asylum in Britain to be returned quickly. The UK government has hailed its success. Are you unaware of this? Lack of GP appointments is nothing to do with immigration or refugees- it is because the NHS is not funded properly due to the Tories mindless and callous policy of austerity, and the fact that Britain spends 7% less than France and Germany on healthcare. Again, you are probably unaware of the underfunding of the NHS. You mention being honest about what it taking place- the best place to start would be refraining from posting inaccurate and misleading comments that you cannot substantiate and which do not match reality.

Hats off to Stella Creasy! This was a speech that demonstrated that politicians are not all the same. The ECHR is a jewel in our democracy. It is not a foreign court. It is an international court of which the UK is a fully functioning member. Those like Creasy who champion it fill me with hope for a free future. Those on the opposite benches who seek to undermine it so they can get their way and to hell with everyone else fill me with contempt. I pray they are shown the door at the next election. They do not deserve their privilege.

Human rights, if human rights exist, apply to individuals not groups. Also, the European Convention of Human Rights does not deny due process of law etc which is particular. I tend to take the view that social rights are going too far - I see people write ' is a right' without realising the correlative duty etc. I get protection from the State rights, but they quickly become social rights: for example, free expression goes from a relationship between Government and governed to between individuals.

@@dougiesweeny4833 Agreed! To solve homelessness AND to stop stoking fear to distract/ divide us, so that they can continue not exercising due diligence as regards fulfilling their duty of care, to anyone in this country. Homelessness has many causes, illegal migration is a tiny fraction of the overall picture. Bigger factors are Thatcher's Right To Buy, along with a failure to replace the original housing stock, never mind increase supply to match any increase in population. 40% of previous council houses now rented out by rip off landlords. New properties scooped up by landlords, etc to include AirBnB! Buildings and brownfield sites empty. The closure of the mental health institutions in the '90s. A lack of mental health/ social services now. The constant artificial limiting of supply to inflate prices, so some make a lot of money while the homeless look forward to ill physical, mental health, abuse and death at an average age of 47. None of the above are solved by stopping the boats whether they are carrying illegal men of military age, rap*sts, etc or illegal migrants, asylum seekers, economic migrants, students, as well as Uncle Tom Cobley and all. Anyhow, to prevent any further screeds; I'll bid you good-day 🤠💜

The citizens of this country never got a fair hearing regarding mass immigration. It's quite funny hearing an MP going on about rights and freedoms but every time some piece of legislation is put before them that diminish these rights of the citizens of the country they sign it off every single time. We all know that this whole Rwanda plan was just window dressing, only ever designed to distract the population and make them think that politicians were actually going to do something about reducing the flood of poor refuges fleeing the dangerous hell hole that is France or the far higher number of immigrants destroying this country.

@@jonathandnicholson I listed two separate things, albeit separated by ellipses not commas, but I then made reference to them being two things, which should have been clear. The first point: I didn't suggest that we had left the ECHR, nor that it was the same as the EU. You must surely be aware of rumblings within the Tory far right to leave the ECHR though, yes? It's that pesky thing that gets in the way of Tories being Tories. It's ironic that, as it underpins the GF agreement (as per the speech), they would risk NI for a few boats. The second point: The irony is that we would leave an organisation (The EU) in order to *do business* with the rest of the world, and then consider doing things (leaving ECHR/legislating against international law) that, as per t'speech, would make us *less attractive to do business with*. I make no claims on the quality of the pun (everyone's a critic), nor that the pun itself was irony (that was aaallll you), but I stand by it 🤪

@@DW-indeed I am not sure you understand irony or that Brexit the opposition to the European Convention of Human Rights is about sovereignty rather than small boats per se. Some people said Brexit was about trade, but Brexit was principally about sovereignty. Not every policy is implemented for the sake of the economy and/or trade. Even if Brexit was about the economy and/or trade, well, not every policy is about the economy and/or trade. Your point about the European Convention of Human Rights getting the way of Tories (Conservatives because Tories refers to specific people at a specific moment in history who were unified on a specific issue which was not human rights, but I get what you mean) being Tories, well, that confirms the lack of irony before we get onto whether the claim/statement is humourous. What did you expect Tories to do? Not everything you disagree with is 'ironic'. The ironic thing about Alanis Morriesette's Isn't It Ironic? song is not a single example of irony was given (because you would expect a song about irony to have examples of irony). I asked 'what is ironic?' and you replied the way you did. I thought the pun was part of the irony given you posted 'There is also ...'.

Probably because she is right. A refugee is a refugee. That much has not changed since 1951. In as much as 70%+ of applicants (yes, even those who have arrived "illegally" - in fact, seeking asylum is not illegal, however a person arrives) have that status granted, so 20+% have their application refused. In that sense, the rules haven't changed and are being applied. This policy is an untidy and unworkable proposition, at best it's a distraction from the real problems that we face, at worst it's a really nasty gateway to a slew of other legislation that could use this proposed law as a thin end of a wedge.
