Talk’s Mike Graham is joined by former Conservative Health Secretary Stephen Dorrell as Labour has pledged to end the 8am scramble for GP appointments.
Under the party’s plans, family doctors, physiotherapists, mental health specialists, dentists, district nurses, care workers and health visitors would be brought under one roof as part of a trial of Neighbourhood Health Centres.
Meanwhile, junior doctors are starting a five-day walkout across England - their 11th since their pay dispute began some 20 months ago.
Medics have said they will call off the strike if Mr Sunak makes a credible commitment to restore their pay.

NHS paid out a staggering £2.6 Billion pounds settling claims against it for negligence and damages. That is just one year. 2.6 billion pounds a year of our money. How many hospitals and nurses would that pay for. NHS not underfunded but incompetent.

what infuriates me about my GPs is that they call that 8am scramble 'emergency appointments' which is obviously designed to put elderly rule abiding pensioners off from calling at all ! If it WAS an emergency i would go to A and E , not sit in a phone queue for an hour.
@Roatanlova68fmp71lliiiak

There's the same amount of Drs at my surgery, but the waiting time for an appointment is 2 - 3 months. Sometines, when you eventually get your phonecall answered, they have zero appointments left in their system to book and ask you to call back and wait another half hour on the phone another day. All this since the rona lockdown, before that you could usually get in the same day by calling at 8. The difference is the sudden mass increase of patients.

Not giving out appointments is the GP surgery’s way of fixing the books. There are appointments but they would be outside the two week period so they won’t book them.

I get £12.50 an hour for lifting sheets of Gyprock around for 6 days a week, 10 hours a day lol. So £15 is a good wage for a nurse or a NHS cook. Your indoors all winter for a start. And plenty holidays. While im out all winter in the rain n snow all day. With Hilti guns, freezing my **** off lol.

You get 12.50 for lifting sheet… so you think some of the highest achievers in the country, with 6 years training and 100k debt (PLUS have missed out on 120k minimum wage salary whilst training) should be happy with £15 an hour. What? Is this satire?

My son is a junior doctor and his basic pay rate is £21.15 per hour. With Pay for additional hours above 40 hours, on-call allowance, weekend allowance and enhanced pay at 37% rate he earns £33 per hour on average through a 12-month period. Don't believe the BMA nonsense and striking doctors' propaganda. This strike action is purely political.

One of the big problems is placing people to fulfil vacancies using DEI quotas rather than ability, experience, intelligence and suitability. 19 years in the NHS and I've seen this disastrous and demotivating law wreak havoc in three hospitals. Plus there's way too many unnecessary managers and hardly any "joined up thinking" at the top..

A lot of people not turning up for appointments are a problem also, when I was in Canada if you missed an appointment you were charged $75 for not canceling or not turning up and you couldn't make another appointment until it was paid. Very rarely was an appointment missed or canceled.

The patients and public who pay for all of this are NEVER a problem. It's this attitude from the highly paid managers sponging off of these patients that is the problem. They can't even come up with a system to manage a few missed appts.?
@Casper-we3dq
@Casper-we3dq 27 күн бұрын
It’s more than a few. My surgery displays a notice showing the number of missed appointments each month, and it’s a lot. I mentioned this to my doctor, and he said it’s a real problem. The issues facing the NHS are multifaceted and can’t be attributed to just one cause. Partisan politics is also damaging, as people often diagnose problems based on their political beliefs and ignore issues that don’t fit their narrative.

Can’t stand GPs.. the police, teachers,hotel staff, SSE,even toilet attendants all work 5 days or shifts as a normal part of their work. Having said that my life was saved by hospital staff….as I was ill out of hours so had to go to A and E, so have no problem with hospitals….and if I could I would bypass GPs all together……..

I am from a 3rd world country but situation here is far better than UK .doctors GPs in Our govt hospitals attend to at least 80 to 100 patients in OPDs..emergency treatment in immediate...no waiting there. ..even specialist attend to almost 50 patients a day. I am surprised to know a GP attends to only 8 patients a day under NHS in UK.
