Labour wins massive majority - but is this a loveless landslide?

Promising to be a force for good and to restore trust in politics - Sir Keir Starmer has hit the ground running on his first day in office naming his new Cabinet - and declaring that the work of change would begin immediately.

With just one seat left to declare, Labour can boast a majority of 176 MPs. While the Conservatives are down to a third of their previous total. It was a record night for the Liberal Democrats, as they become the third largest party in Westminster. While the SNP suffered huge losses.

Labour won because conservative voters decided not to vote. Votes for Labour were only up 1.6%, while Conservative votes were down by almost 20%. Also, the system is disproportionate. Labour should have Starmer step down and bring back Jeremy Corbyn to be Prime Minister. Corbyn got 12,887,918 votes in 2017, and 10,269,051, in 2019. Starmer only got 9,686,329 in 2024. In the 2024 election, Starmer got 18,884 votes. In 2019, he had 36,641. He had half as many votes in his constituency this time. Turnout in his constituency was 56,000 in 2019. It was only 38,000 this election. Corbyn beat the Labour candidate in his constituency this election as an independent, and had 24 thousand 120 votes, over 5000 more than Starmer.

Anybody who has lived under a labour government knows most of what's to come and know it's not good. We needed politicians who would do what the majority wanted and labour only got a third of the votes but has a massive majority. I am 70 in London and never known a Party win so many seats by a split among 2 other factions. Look at Penny Morduant who just lost to Labour by less than 1,000 while the second Right Wing Party got 8,000 votes, mainly from The Tories that let Labour slide in. In my neighbouring constituency, the 2 Right Parties got 21,000+ votes but Labour won with just 15,000 because the other 2 split their vote by 13,000 an 8,000...NEXT TIME, if Reform get stronger then they and The Tories will vote tactically, which this time would have slashed the Labour majority.
