Larry Andrews. You get to choose how to spend your time. Just remember that life is short. If you do get a dog some day, you'll remember these videos and you will have everything you need to help it become a great companion for you. It will take some thinking and effort from you. Try it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Larry A: There are many successful dog training strategies on YT. Obviously none of them are the ONLY way to train. I like thinking and problem-solving. I watch training videos from several sources because I'm interested to train my own dogs using positive methods. I like this channel because it doesn't try to lead me by the hand and it gives me plenty of good idea's.
@mikeewing60354 жыл бұрын
Larry A: It took a bit for me to recognize the point you make when I started watching dog training videos. A recent video made the point that many training videos are disingenuous by not showing all the details. Other videos talk about the importance of being careful to not be overly harsh because of the training setbacks it can cause. I'm always going to gravitate to trainers that teach ME how to get good results without shooting myself in the foot. I'm lucky because I live in a rural area with many places to train and I have plenty of time to spend with my two dogs. We are making daily progress and having a great time. It sounds like you are missing contact with dogs. I hope that changes for you. Good luck, Larry. It's showtime for me.

Larry A: Thanks Larry. For now I'm going to challenge myself to get as far as I can without force fetch, toe hitch, ear pinch, e-collars and such. I'm not in a hurry and I believe I can make good things happen. I like a good challenge. At the same time I am having fun sharing successful techniques with my partner. She is 100% new to dog training and she is having a good time with this project.
@craighembree31014 жыл бұрын
Mike Ewing You shouldn’t need to force fetch a hunting dog or use an e-collar on one. Field trial people frequently have to do both, because they’re asking a dog to circumvent its instincts and do unnatural things. But working gun dogs from good breeding should be fine without either. The trouble with force fetching is, it covers for-and perpetuates-bad breeding. A dog with insufficient desire and/or mouth problems is force-fetched into decent performance. Then he’s bred. His offspring will probably have the same insufficient desire and mouth problems and will also need to be force-fetched.

Love this drill! Have you done any videos specifically tailored to a duck hunting scenario? For instance this drill is phenomenal, however what about dealing with pups in the ground blind in a thick tule patch (marsh hunting) and they don't see the bird fall? Is it very different than the typical retrieval drill in the heel position?

Loved the video! I have two questions. Is there a way to get my lab to not shake the water off as soon as he gets out of the water? He seems to drop the dummy when he shakes the water off. Also, I really like your training vest. Do you mine sharing where you got it?

My general opinion is that the best dog training is the dog training that people will actually do at home. If you like what a person does, then simply do your best to understand the methodology, implementing the techniques with consistency, patience, and perseverance.

Hey Stonnie, is there an age that is too young to start acclimating a lab puppy to gunfire ? I will be picking up a puppy in June and and will begin training him right away. I would like to take him with me in Sept when Dove season starts. He will be 5 months old by then. I know not to really expect much at that age but would like to have him with me so he may kinda get the idea of what’s going on.
