Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

What should I if the puppy just flops down and wants to play or chew on the bumper?
@jasonpetik70165 жыл бұрын
I used this with my DD and it has worked great. I started with some of his toys and as he showed interested in the retrieving I moved to the winged bumper.

This is my first time commenting on your channel and I just want to say THANK YOU!!!! As a first generation hunter I started hunting waterfowl and upland birds 5 years ago and have been doing so without a K9 hunting partner. After making the decision to finally take on the exciting challenge of picking and training my hunting partner I started researching what would be involved, which led me to your channel and your playlist with Sprig. I watched every video multiple times before taking the leap to find a reputable breeder to choose my future hunting partner. Your training videos gave me the confidence to take on the challenge of training a successful hunting dog as I have no previous dog training experience and wanted to know if it was possible for me to do it on my own which was very important to me. Well, I picked up my Black Lab "Gunner" 4 weeks ago and with the help of your Sprig videos I have to say he is doing amazing! He is so smart which, as you know and I learned from you, the higher the pedigree the smarter the dog. My friends and family are beside themselves with how advanced he is at such a young age. Thanks to Sheetwater Kennels in Simcoe Ontario, Canada, I have a well bred dog that I can already tell will be a hunting machine. Sheetwater Kennels has been breeding Award winning and field tested dogs for years and I couldn't be happier that I found them. I continue to reference your videos before moving on to the next steps of Gunner's training and couldn't be happier with the results. Thank you again for your amazing and informative content. Keep up the good work!!!

So glad you have found our videos so helpful! It sounds like you did a lot of research before making such a big decision to get a pup as well as made sure you were prepared for bringing home a puppy!

Great simple video. I just picked up my second lab, she's 8 weeks and we are doing this in the hall. Two things I am doing that work well, first is cutting the rope off to discourse dragging it or a sloppy hold. I found it makes her get a good hold it proper. Second, I store the small canvas bumper in a ziploc with duck wings so there is natural scent in the fibers equally throughout. Just wanted to share that

Great video, my 12 week old does the same thing. Or just lays down and wants to chew on the bumper. Keep the instruction coming, I love it.

Brian Fisher thanks for watching! You will probably want to keep the retreiving sessions short!

Great video! How to avoid the pup to focus on the strings and flaps on the dummy, instead of the dummy itself?

I love watching this video and Sprig is such a sweet lad. My 12 week old yellow is more aggressive. He does not want to give it up and has TOO strong a hold on the bumper. (I am using paint rollers). I limit the session to 3 tosses per day in a hallway. II uses another bumper to get him to drop the first one. I think my pup will be more of a work in progress than Sprig.

You should use long leash .....when once he fetches you should call him enthusiastically to bring the object ..... Otherwise he'll runs away .....

You gotta make it more fun for your pup to want to bring it back . Decrease your distance and build from there . The reward does not have to be a treat , the reward comes from your throwing the tug toy

I have a 12 week old silver lab, what’s a good age for them to start doing like your video? I feel like we can have a few tosses with the ball but that’s it he’s over it, and I showed him the bumper at bass pro and he didn’t want anything to do with it. But maybe he was overwhelmed from the shopping cart and my two small kids and all the other exciting things at bass pro…..

When training your puppy is it ok to have more than one person doing the training with a clicker? Also, you folks make some great videos, best out there in my opinion! I will be using your techniques on our GSP pup, so thank you for the videos!

I have an 11 week old lab, when they bring it back is it better to teach them to drop it or have them have a tighter grip on it ? Because I also heard you don’t want to play tug a war with them so they don’t think a bird is a toy

Love the videos. My wife and I are in between getting a American(working lab) vs English (show breed lab). She likes the English lab and I like the American. Can you still train a English lab for upland hunting and waterfowl? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

First scene in the video and I have to disagree, never let your dog (especially a puppy) play or run on hardwood floors because it can develop dysplasia or other problems. It was like an ice pick in my eyes watching your puppy slip around chasing that dummy.
@j_saxon_97543 жыл бұрын
Some of your more advanced videos are great but I have to disagree with this one. Having been around hunting labs/ lab training since 2001 and currently possessing 2 AKC duck dogs who hit it hard in east Texas every year I have to say I have always heard and gone by tug of war, being inside, and not including more obedience in with fetch from day one are all minor mistakes.
