I made this video to provide an update on my recovery from the arthroscopic labral tear/FAI surgery (hip scope). 3 months before the making of this video, on January 4th 2022, I had surgery on both of my hips. This video is meant to document my journey in recovering from the surgery. I hope it can be helpful to anyone who is considering the surgery.

How do you feel now? Would you say it was worth it?

Sorry I've been really bad about posting update videos. Yes I'd say it was worth it, I'm currently about 15 months post op and I can run and jump pain free and sit or stand as long as I want with minimal pain which was damn near impossible several years ago. My number 1 advice is do the physical therapy religiously. The surgery definitely helped but anecdotally I believe the physical therapy helped more than the surgery itself. Also, the stronger you are going into the surgery, the easier the recovery will be. I recommend going to physical therapy for a few months before the surgery or if you can't afford that, strengthen your glutes and other hip muscles as much as possible before the surgery. Life has been busy lately but I will try to make another update video at some point.

Also stay on the crutches for 6 weeks, even if you feel like you can walk. I ditched the crutches after 1 week and had to go back on them around the 5 week mark because I developed bursitis. And find a reputable surgeon, a lot of people are made worse by this surgery but I saw an excellent surgeon who was very meticulous and had an excellent physical therapy protocol designed to get people back to being athletic. I live in Denver, Colorado and my surgeon was Dr. Omer Mei-Dan at the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center in Boulder, CO. I cannot recommend him enough if you live in Colorado. Also I'm pretty sure the top surgeon for FAI/Labral Tears in the country lives in Vail, CO but I can't remember that guy's name. Overall I can say the surgery was worth it and I believe it's possible that if I didn't get the surgery, I would've needed hip replacements later in life if the damaged continued getting worse.
