Labyrinth of the Ancients Guide - FFXIV Raids

Today I'll be walking you through the first 24 player alliance raid of the Crystal Tower series in Final Fantasy 14. This one is relatively easy but does contain mechanics that can kill you if you don't know about them!

I listened to several recommendations to do CT blind because it was "really easy". I took "really easy" to mean that it had intuitive mechanics and easy to follow markers. I quickly learned what they actually meant was "the other 23 people will carry you so don't bother learning it" and it felt like garbage. I realize in hindsight that LotA would've been a lot more fun if it wasn't just mechanics happening mindlessly around me while I played Where's Waldo with my tank. This shines a lot of light on what the hell was going on and I'm not making the same mistake for the next two.

Great guide, thanks for sharing!! Two notes for new tanks and one for healers: 1. For Behemoth, if you’re a tank pulling aggro for the giant soldier things, try your best to face them away from both the party and the rock when you hide behind one. If you don’t, the party gets a bad cleave that’s powerful enough to break your rock…you can imagine one comes next. I learned this the hard way 🥲 don’t ignore the bomb adds either, I’ve had wipes from those exploding. 2. For main tanking the last boss, drag it a ways towards Alliance B’s platform (the one in the middle edge). This gives a better visual of when Ancient Flare will be casted cuz he will have to walk back to the middle of the arena, buying everyone a couple seconds to RUN THE HECK OUTTA THERE!! 3. For healers, the very first rooms with the big mob packs usually is an indicator of how much healing you’ll need to do through the rest of the raid based on how many players are often damaged/die. If they’re getting hurt a lot by the first room, it may help to put up a regen/shield AOE early next room pull just for a wee bit of extra protection. This *especially* applies to the bone dragon and skeletons cuz even at current level those raidwides can still hurt a lot. If you see those skele boys running to the dragon corpse, get ready 💀 Good luck and have fun!! It’s okay if you mess up, you’ll learn the more you tank n heal this place. It’ll eventually be a breeze 👍

Just a heads' up to players: On the Walk of Fire (and possibly in the others), the game randomises the alliance assignment positions. For example, last night, my Alliance group A was assigned the boss in the middle rather than on the left. Jolsn, yours are some of the best updated dungeon guides we have right now. Thanks!

Done this raid quite a few times but mostly just did my best to follow w/e other ppl were doing to survive. It's nice to finally understand why Thanatos seemed to be invulnerable so often, I couldn't figure it out. Lol Thanks for the guide!

So... why did a barrier that everyone else was able to run through on the way to an area, was impassable for me? I had to wait and get teleported in. Twice, in different parts.

Ah, just did this raid for the first time today, the only thing I didn't figure out was the three Atmos ahhh. I learned the final bosses nuke the hate way. Noticed everyone running a tad bit too late and slammed into the wall right as it proced. Had fun watching other die to it on reruns though haha.

2:38 😂😂😂😂 that happens to us today lol we were A and we couldn’t hit the boss and the veterans on my party where talking shit to the others groups lol. It was my first raid so I didn’t know what was going on. I did dog water throughout the whole raid and died at Behemoth once. But know I know what to do. It was fun tho. Really like the 24 mens raids. 👍🏼

Sorry I'm a bit late, but I really have to ask this now. I'm a healer, and for the last 3 times running this raid I always get aggro from all the adds at Bone Dragon. I'm aware that heal aggro is a thing, but out of all the 6 healers in this raid, all the adds rush me for some reason and I almost die every time. Am I doing something wrong here, or am I just that unlucky?

Ideallly your tanks should be grabbing them skeles as soon as they spawn, but alas that’s not always the case so just regen/shield yourself and pray 🥲 you’re probably doing enough damage to match next to the tank or something to be 2nd on the aggro list…that and adds just like healers (can check by looking to the bottom left of your name in party).

Glad your first run was good! How freely I speak depends on the video I make. For this one I speak freely but in paragraphs. I'll record 20-30 seconds and then think of how to best phrase the next part to make it easy to understand. For other videos that require more editing work in general, I often write a script.
