When you guys were talking about The Other-Thing, it reminded me of that weird sex scene from Blue Velvet. When Jeffery sees Frank and Dorothy getting off, he sees an excessive, scary, and in a weird way sublime interaction between two human beings. It’s like he’s seeing the sex-Thing and the sight of it awakens him to the the sex-Thing in himself, i.e. the uncanny excessiveness of his own sexuality. It’s not like the praying mantis story where the subject is directly questioned by the other’s desire. Frank and Dorothy don’t even know he’s there. He doesn’t have to worry about who he is for them. It’s more like seeing them forces him to wonder who he really is - not for himself - but in himself. Love this interview! I always look forward to your posts :)
