I'm not at all trying to contradict either of you. However, i do this bun almost everyday for ballet just as shown in this video. And my skin gets a little red just because its tight. It only does that as a reaction to how high your hair is put. Once your done with the hairstyle you can loosen it a bit to release some strain it has on some areas it has on your head. ex: behind your ears. Hope this cleared it up somewhat. It doesn't necessarily mean she's pulling her hair roughly. Although, it can be a possibility.
