Actually, we inherited Koi Boy with our previous house. He was only about 6 inches long in the tiny pond that the other owners had. When we moved in, we had to make the pond bigger to accommodate Koi Boy. Well, we ran out of room again, so we decided to build a house and a 2000 gallon pond, which is where we live now ;) Just kidding! Koi Boy was not the actual reason that we moved, hee hee...

You should let Lexi eat that 23 y.o. Koi while it's still a bit tender, LOL... It's a lovely pond, and I love the small waterfall feature.Did you consider planting a bonsai or two by the pond, it would make it look even more beautiful. Thumbs up for all of you guys! :-)

Oh no, Thomas! There is absolutely NO fishing at our pond ;) I never thought about having a bonsai by the pond, I would think that our winters would be too hard on them? I have to agree, they would be very beautiful out there. Thanks for the thumbs up!! Happy week :)

Beautiful Koi and pond! How have you been able to keep them safe from herons and raccoons? I'm sure keeping Koi Boy safe for 23 years hasn't been easy :)

Thank you SO much! Luckily, we have never seen a raccoon around our area, which is odd. We did have a heron problem :( We have a water motion sensor now. It is called the Scarecrow. I have a video on our channel about it. It seems to be working. Have not seen a heron for a while now. In the fall, we put a net on to catch the leaves and that also protects the fish. Koi Boy can definitely hold his own, a heron would never be able to get him, thank goodness! Thanks for watching :)

Thanks for the reply. Your pond and fish all look great, I like the way you styled it. I recently bought a Scarecrow also, and just put a net over my pond. So far, so good. I had a raccoon get my largest koi and herons were grabbing the others so hopefully my new protection measures work. Thanks again, keep posting good videos.

Harish Dhalia Butterfly Koi can grow quite large, but they seem to grow only as large as their surroundings. Since we have a fairly large pond, I believe that is why 'Koi Boy' is so big ;)

These fishes generally can live to upto more than 200 years but they mostly live upto 25-35 years. :)

Unfortunately, we do :( We have a motion sensor that sprays water and that helps to keep them away. It is called the 'scarecrow motion activated water sprinkler' -- I posted a video on it. If you go onto our main channel page and do a search, you should be able to find it. Hope that helps!

Our pond is 17 years old. The white Butterfly Koi, Koi Boy came here from our previous property ;) He is by far the oldest fish that we have. Some of the black goldfish, that are really hard to see, are 17, as old as the pond.

The black ones are just regular goldfish. They were born black, but never changed their color as most of our other goldfish did.
