I am thoroughly enjoying this voyage through the Headphone/Gadget shops of Hong Kong; absolutely no complaints. I wonder if will also hit some of the restaurants and Nightlife establishments as well?

I never knew about Jaben or Mingo, and I've been in that area a gazillion times, but that's the nature of shops there. You missed out on an even larger headphone shop near the Mong Kong Computer Centre called Kingsound. I took a look at those three places today.

Outstanding video. Makes me want to return to Hong Kong! Although I've been since, I had the pleasure of a 10-day HK visit in 1995, staying in Mong Kok. The main drawcard was 3 days of scintilllating airplane spotting and photography at the legendary Kai Tak airport. Walking around streets in the airport vicinity amid the deafening sound and sight of low-flying jets is branded in my memory. Eagerly awaiting your next video!

Very good video, thanks a lot. I know a lot of headphone shops in Beijing and Tianjing but none of them has those almost-full/updated headphone/earphone collections as HongKong's. Thanks for your video, now I'm really attempting to HongKong just for earphone/headphone auditing ;-)

What a delightful thing to wake up to! I had a big smile on my face through most of this. Those stores are unbelievable. I've never seen anything like that. I'm not even sure there's places that wicked in America, none that I've seen anyway. I'm super jealous. The creepy sound effects were a cute touch :) I can't wait to see more! By the way, you hold up very well under all those tight close-ups.

Hey! I was actually just in Hong Kong the past few days and ended up checking out these stores in Mong Kok! I ended up having to decide between the Sony MDR-1A and the ATH MSR7...and went with the MSR7s from Broadway. Pretty happy with my purchase so far!

I also found that Hong Kong people prefer in-ear headphones. I guess because of the size (more convenient), plus Hong Kong weather is hot and humid. Over-ear often causes my ears sweating, and earrings are my personal problem. Secondly, I believe that the appearance, stability and weight may be a factor as well. If the factors are not on the headset. In my opinion, the problem exists in Hong Kong people's habits, such as using time.

Kingsound's (headphone.com.hk) MK Flagship store is worth going, most shops in WanChai are just retail branches of stores in MK. Also the 3 story electronics shopping mall next the the Mingo building with the neon sign at the start of the video is worth a visit, which also has Mingo's retail store with different headphones for demo. Also it might be worth it to get a pairt of the spinfit tips at Mingo (on the tips rack beside the door), they are suppose to be very good, but extremely hard to find if you are not in HK

The staff was really nice and patient; especially when I took 3 trips (each time I got lost going to and from my hotel) to finally make my decision on what to buy. Hey there Lachlan, Lovely video. Really interesting to get into the shops and see what is there. I don't think we have anything like that In London - I would have a hard time leaving!! On your travels any chance you can give the B&O MH6 a listen - and give some comments - a review would be great if you have the time and opportunity. I think they give the momentums and the MDR1a's a run for their money but there is a downside too. Very sparkly in the highs I think. Really interested in your view. Thanks again for the HK Vid. Can't wait for the next part!!

full sized portable headphones are not popular in hong kong is because of the weather, 80% of the time (even in winter) is hot and moist, you wouldn't want to soak the earpads with ur face grease and sweat haha, and also it's just extremely hot to wear on ear or over ears

v0000000000000000v not sure if that is me or many people do, it doesn't feel right wearing headphones...I tried wearing my m50x in the US on the bus, I feel like the headphone is getting people's attention. About the noise, full size headphone never isolate as well compare to iems. this is an experience I had with my m50x. and lastly, it seems like people around me who does not play music, they almost never thought about paying anything more than $100 hkd for a headphone or iem. they said it just doesn't worth their money. anyways, never knew there are such place in Hong Kong O.o must go!!!

I live in HK and didn't know these places hahaaha, and thank you as I'm currently looking for a pair of headphone and I shall go there and have a look. As for why headphone is not as popular in HK, my guess is that the humidity/heat in HK will make people sweat like crazy and the size of headphones making them harder to bring around compare to in-ear style, that's my guess.
