Im in the NYC Suburb market... same problem in the 3am to 6am window and the trips can be as much as 21 minutes away. Not going more than 7 minutes for a reg X trip thats not on a surge or boost... 15 minutes for XL

It happens here too in California. The bay area, with Lyft and uber. There's alot of drivers but for some reason they always be trying to give the driver shitty far away pick ups 15 to 35 mins away. It's bs, over here I've checked the rider maps on both lyft and uber, there's a lot of drivers showing, but apparently they think we are going to drive ridiculous miles to end up doing a 1 mile drop off.

Has anyone ever received the text on the app after denying a ride claiming “your the only closest driver available “?

The worst is going 15 minutes to find and underage rider is waiting for you. Every time I encounter this I ask UBER to kindly give me a cancellation fee due to fradulent use of app. Do they care? they have never replied!

Try other areas with less drivers. Disney gets swamped by newbies because it's an obvious place to be. Check out my video "The Big Picture".

I also live in Pinellas. You start a tad before me, but I also start early. The problem I see here that nobody is addressing is the following: surge is supposed to function off of supply and demand. Why aren’t those calls surged? Clearly more demand than supply. Uber and Lyft BOTH need to understand that driving long distances when the minimums are so low is an inefficient use of our time and resources. Want me to chase something down a bit further??? Surge it and at least entice me a bit more than 1.2 to consider it.
@OregonDuckingIt
@OregonDuckingIt 7 жыл бұрын
And add to that the fact that you kept getting offered the same calls after not accepting them. What efficiency!!!
@SolidDriver
@SolidDriver 7 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! I get the feeling that surge has more to do with what they think they can milk out of the riders and less to do with giving drivers an incentive.
@willc5512
@willc5512 7 жыл бұрын
TRUE. Otherwise they wouldnt allow themselves to mass recruit by the thousand with the hope they'll enjoy driving in risky areas late at night/early am. IE drunk drivers on road & ppl with LESS then honest/safe intentions. Surge could help with ALL those issues. WANNA go pick up a kilo of dope at 3 am in the hood then pay the damm surge!

I know you're just having a laugh but there's good reason to pick them up from higher end clubs. They're willing to travel far for a club that treats them well. Thus upscale clubs can provide drivers with long trips. I've found that the opposite is true for low-class clubs. Their staff tends to live close, makes you wait and can be a pain in the ass in general. In any case it's good to get familiar with all the clubs in your market. There are those I will always refuse and others that I'll drive a few extra miles to accept.

If you are getting pings from a long distances it usually means the area is neglected which means there are opportunities in that area.

I thought about going out earlier (I live in Pinellas county, too) but I don't like early mornings! As long as I get to decide when I start my day, I'll continue to sleep in... However, like some of your other commenters, I'd pick up some of those pings while I was waiting for the bar personnel to quit.

An important skill is in cherrypicking which trips you accept. Every driver's goal should be to make the most money per mile that they can. That is assuming they're doing this for the money. There are those who legit want to help their community or they're retired and want something to do etc. My tips don't really apply to them. I'm trying to show people how to put money in the bank ;)

I never travel more than seven minutes anymore. This lessens the resentment for the $2.25 rides.(pre tax and costs.) and when I encounter underagers. Don't forger UBER is banned (license yanked) in LONDON why? London says UBER is unfit to hold license.

@SolidDriver

My goal while driving is to make money. Stars don't pay my bills and acceptance rate is meaningless. If you drive 10 miles away to pick up a rider who will likely cancel before you get there or will only give you a minimum fare you'll end up losing money. It's better to wait if you know your current location will provide good trips.
@CRASS2047
@CRASS2047 7 жыл бұрын
Solid Driver actually your acceptance rate will cause you to wait longer for rides. Their algorithm pings drivers with the highest acceptance rate first. The lower it gets, the longer between pings. This is directly from Uber.
@CRASS2047

And it’s this very reason that Lyft has surpassed Uber at the Tampa airport! If you don’t accept one lyft request, you are moved to the back of the queue. Where as Uber, you can skip multiple requests. And there is a large group of drivers who only do airport, and you can hear the group of them pinging over and over, and they don’t take anything that doesn’t say long trip. Which in turn, means that all the rest of us only get short trips, and passengers have learned that lyft is much faster at TPA . That’s why when I pull in, there is usually 60-80 lyft drivers ahead in queue, and only 20-30 Uber drivers. Shameful man! Ruining the system!

You can be deactivated for having a low cancellation rate. But they can't drop you for having a low acceptance rate. Since drivers are not employees, they have the right to accept or decline a contract. Uber don't like it but they got sued already for not playing fair so now they have to comply.
