The words "separation of church and state" do not appear in the U.S. Constitution, but the concept is enshrined in the very first freedom guaranteed by the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Known as the establishment clause, the opening lines of the First Amendment (key point) prohibit the government from creating an official religion or favoring one religion (or nonreligion) over another.

There is nothing in our constitution about separation of church and state other than saying our government shall not establish a national religion for all citizen to exercise. It says nothing about people in government being able to express their religious belief in government places or public places. I would advocate for that if there was a consensus that agreed it was OK to do. I don't believe there should be a law to force these type things but there was a law Legislated that has kept the Bible and prayer our of schools. Why force the 10 commandments but not the bill of rights nor Declaration of Independence? This not even mentioning the fact Louisiana ranks 47th in nation for education. 1st commandment obviously violates the establishment clause cause it requires worship to a single deity that is the Hebrew warrior god. As a Hindu, I definitely think this law is unconstitutional because it explicitly requires religious instruction. Also historians agree, 10 commandments origin lies in the Egyptian 42 confessions of Ma’at so the commandments are not even the original source material…

Here's how you do it: 1. Bring back the pledge, but modify it from "under God" to "under One". 2. Require theology AND humanism as a high school requirement, under the banner of social studies. 3. Keep human sexuality course, but divide in half, where, in the first half, you have basic human reproduction (6th grade) and basic human sexuality (12th grade). KEEP SEX OUT OF PRMARY SCHOOL LEVEL. 4. Teach home economics in high school, which should include financial literacy. 5. Teach critical thinking, speech, foreign language, and civics. 6. Institute a real PE program, and bring back Jr. ROTC. 7. Focus on job training and preparation in junior and senior grade. Require driver's education and training. And that's a start. Give these kids structure and guidance.

Also it's a pretty decent list for educational reform, but there's some few modifications I would like to make with 4 of the 7 suggestions. - As for number 1, we can have the Pledge of Allegiance like it was before when it was just " one nation, invisible, with liberty and just for all " instead of " one nation, under god, invisible with liberty and just for all ". - As for number 2, I think the teachings of humanism and theology should be left up to the parents if they want to teach your parents either of the philosophies or both of the philosophies. - As for number 3 I think human sexuality is something that an individual can figure out on their own in their teen years and young adult years with their peers who are obviously similar age as them. Sex education is something should be taught in the matter of middle school health class that teaches about the reproductive parts of males and females, the biological formation of birth, the different types of STDs, and the different types of contraceptives. Then the students can do what they want with that information. - As for number 6, I agree we need to bring back real PE program. But I think we also need to introduce a compulsory combative class that teaches students boxing and wrestling that would be required to teach for at least 7 years of the K to 12 education ( aka from kindergarten to 6th grade at least and then students after 6th grade can choose if they want to keep taking that PE course or not ). It would not just teach children to effectively defend themselves in hand-to-hand combat situations at a early age, but it would also help build character. Then after those four modifications, I want to also would like to add an suggestion of educational reform which would be acquiring to teach students at 12th grade a course that's about gun training and gun safety ( in which they will be trained and closely looked after by a trained professional marksman ).

@@emasegreto1391 not all “indoctrination” is bad. Literally everything you teach a child as they grow up is technically indoctrination, the point is to try and expose them to as much positive, healthy, and constructive indoctrination as possible before they get to an age where you’re unable to teach them anything anymore, or “indoctrinate” them anymore. Tell me, what would a kid look like and behave like that’s never had ANY “indoctrination”? Would they even be able to function in the world? Every belief, moral ideal, every aspect of a persons worldview comes to them from some form of indoctrination. Having kids saying the pledge of allegiance is probably the most mild, the least destructive, the least dangerous, and the least likely type of indoctrination to lead to unhappiness in a kids life. Don’t you want kids in America to care for this country? To value it, to want to protect it and the people that they care about? What part of trying to instill a small amount of patriotism and love of country in our children? What is the harm in doing that?

Forcing the 10 commandments in schools will not make the children behave better, and will open the door for the quran and hindu religious texts to be instituted as well in public schools. @@levibaer18 And? Please be more specific. You see, I do hold that the bill of rights applies to the states, as originally intended by those who crafted the 14th amendment. That the Supreme Court in the years following reconstruction chose to only selectively incorporate some of the enumerated rights strikes me as an affront to justice. That we still have to be arguing over this today is indicative of a problem. I do not hold, for instance that certain states may ban weapons they find frightening, even though the 2nd amendment guarantees the right to both keep and bear arms, of unspecified types. Nor do I hold that states might employ some form of racial discrimination in their hiring practices, even if meant to redress certain past discriminatory practices. And to be consistent, I also hold that states cannot spend taxpayers' money in support of any religion or faith, nor may the state compel attendance in any institution that promotes or promulgates the doctrines of any specific religion. Any such support or promulgation must either apply equally to any and all religions, or must be curtailed entirely. Of course, you are free to disagree. And indeed, this issue has caused a great deal of legal consternation over the generations. But I believe that the constitution means what it says, and original intent is important, if not paramount. PBD is right about the founding of the nation based on Judeo- Christian values and the positive impact it had on our culture. Bring it back, we need to fix the mess we are in. Children need a good foundation. Our culture used to support parents in the raising of children with good moral principles. Now it works to undermine those principles.
@25taylorkw

It'll be one thing for the parents to establish at least a good enough foundation of principles that the kids can live by when they're at their homes, and obviously when the kids grow up to be adults they can choose what type of principles they keep with them or not in terms of living their lives. But I would also say that shove the religious belief down to the throats of people with either different beliefs or non beliefs is just something that's going to stir the pot to create divide. Not to mention K-12 schools are there for teaching kids about the basic fundamental of educational curriculums ( like reading, writing, math, science, and history for example ).

Here’s why it shouldn’t be taught in schools. 1. “You shall have no other gods before me.” • Issue: This commandment conflicts with polytheistic religions, such as Hinduism, which have many gods. 2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol.” • Issue: This commandment conflicts with religions like Hinduism and certain forms of Buddhism, which use idols in worship, and Catholicism, which has statues and images in churches. 3. “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” • Issue: Different religions have varying views on what constitutes taking a deity’s name in vain, and some do not recognize the Judeo-Christian concept of a single God. 4. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” • Issue: The observance of the Sabbath varies greatly among religions. Jews observe it on Saturday, Christians on Sunday, and Muslims on Friday. Some people do not observe a Sabbath at all. 5. “You shall not commit adultery.” • Issue: Different cultures and religions have varying definitions and views on relationships and adultery.

What we're doing now certainly isn't working and it's why the liberal half of America can't even define what a man or woman is, and our nation has become exactly like Romans 1:18-32 describes. We find the term "God" written throughout our Constitution for a reason and it's also why America has "In God We Trust" engraved on our currency and it's why the Supreme Court has a Statute of Moses with Tablets in hand next to their entrance because America's laws are even based in the Bible, so these things alone proves that our founding fathers had God in mind when forming the foundation of America, which Democrats reject because ppl on the left serve Satan, and it shows by the ungodly things Democrats support and uplift like Transgender ideology and push their fake "climate change" nonsense that the Bible refutes and doesn't support.

My grandmother was very knowledgeable when it came to the Bible. When I was young I asked her about why she believed the Bible, believed in God. Her response was, while she absolutely believed in the Lord our savior through Christ and even if the Bible wasn't filled "God's word", if it was only written/influenced by "man" if people would live their life, abiding by, using the commandments as a guideline, the world would be a much better place. The Bible is filled with people making choices and consequences of those choices. Our society wants us to believe our choices have zero consequences. Baffles me how so many people are living in a delusional world.

Children should be learning civics, not a religion in school. I was a part of a Christian after school group at school, so it’s not that I don’t believe in God. My issue is the overreach here. Religion should not be taught in public school.

Every instruction comes from a moral/religious framework. There is no neutrality. Also, it seems many of you don't understand what separation of church and state actually means. Its intention keeps the government out of the church, not the church out of the state

And what part of mandating a religious document being posted in tax funded public schools isn't the government getting its fingers into religion/the church? The government intervening in the church doesn't only mean matters that the church sees as negative. I don't believe you fully understand the separation of church and state.

@@FraterMerovius It means that the Federal Government cannot establish an American National Church that all citizens must be apart of, like what happened in England and many other countries. However, you are missing the fundamental point, all instruction and teaching comes from a religious framework. The nature of man, the nature of wisdom and knowledge, the progress of man, our responsibility personally and corporately. These are religious questions that work themselves into our various topics of study.
@FraterMerovius
@FraterMerovius 4 ай бұрын
@@bradyoung1658 You are correct in that all of our teachings and knowledge derive from a religious or metaphysical standpoint. I don't deny that, it would be foolish. The point is, selecting a specific religion or set of related religions is beyond the purview of the government. I have no problem with teaching morality and ethics, even if those derive from a particular religion that has been embraced by the majority. But including specific religious dogmas or rules that are purely sectarian in nature should be avoided like a plague. The effort should be made to find those common beliefs that are more universal, without allowing them to become diluted and meaningless.

@@LocoMenteClaraOne Why force the 10 commandments but not the bill of rights nor Declaration of Independence? This not even mentioning the fact Louisiana ranks 47th in nation for education. 1st commandment obviously violates the establishment clause cause it requires worship to a single deity that is the Hebrew warrior god. As a Hindu, I definitely think this law is unconstitutional because it explicitly requires religious instruction. Also historians agree, 10 commandments origin lies in the Egyptian 42 confessions of Ma’at so the commandments are not even the original source material…

I think schools should enforce Christianity since America is a Christian country. Muslim countries should enforce Islam. You’re free and if you don’t believe in Christianity you can grow out of it. As long as the pledge of allegiance & teaching to love your country is done is enough. Education should be prioritized more than religion & obviously agenda indoctrination which shouldn’t be allowed in the first place. I’m agnostic but religion would do more benefit than harm.
