I disagree with the point at 6:30 about the rules being unclear about the definition of "clear line of sight"; page 21 of the rulebook spells it out precisely and includes a couple example pictures > What counts as an “unblocked straight line” between two matching flowers? > You must be able to visually trace a straight line between the *center points* of the two chosen flowers. If it’s ambiguous, you can turn the ruler on its side and line it up with the two flower centers to check. Additionally, my experience playing the game is that "We can't tell which pawn is closer to this flower" rarely matters in practice, because usually there are enough unambiguous flowers to secure a win for one player before you have to bust out the ruler.

Eheh yes, everyone has their own pet peeves. Mine is the mechanic for which one card is completely free if you already own another specific one, such as in Everdell or Seven Wonders. I just can't like those games because of that one mechanic.

I felt weird wit how much they talked about the box but never talked about the price of the game which his kinda high for the simple game you get. Its really not that hard to store, as for the looks.. I dont know, it's rare you talk that much about if you liked a cover or no. Also, I would not have ever thought that the box would trigger some feeling of being pompous, I think its really a nice since thing to make box with more art all around since I thing most of gamers buy games knowing what the game is... they do it in a numbers of other games; dice throne, 7th continent, Clautrophobia 1649... probably lot more.

Unless you have an actual game table (with raised edges), when those pieces go rolling off the board (when you're shaking them out), they also go rolling off the table and across the room. Zee's 5 was being generous.

I love the way the packaging looks. That’s honestly a big reason why I bought it. 😅 Pretty shelf presence! Perhaps that’s a gendered perspective.

You know what would make this game even better? A simple twist ala one single opportunity to deny a player the placement.Or...perhaps every player gets two secret flowers in the beginning to work towards something. Just a tiny bit more even as variants would be appreciated. Even a scoring system to incentivize repeat plays (game ends when a player's score goes over 40).

That would be entirely antithetical to the game experience. It'd stop being a chill spacial-reasoning game and become a super tense abstract where you're looking for the hex that is the fewest possible spaces from the most pieces. It'd make the game more about mathematical precision than fuzzy spacial awareness. Which is not their target buyer.

I disagree that the "handkerchief" looks nice. I really think that's a messy look. Same reason I was never interested in Mandala. Give me a board. I don't want wrinkles. I don't want that cheap looking thin, wrinkled, piece of cloth.

Mancala usually has a nice carved wooden board with a hinge in the middle so that it doubles as storage

How does that game get a 7? There's nothing there. It's just dumb. Now someone will say "not every game needs to be super complicated". Which is true, but they should at least qualify as a game 🙄.

Well, I've played it and you haven't, so I would recommend giving it a try before criticizing it.

You couldn't be more wrong, there's plenty of interesting strategy in how you place pawns and take territory and so on. You could level the same accusation at Go, which has basically the same rules complexity.

For me this is why I bought it, it’s not super complicated but has some strategy so I can play it with my wife after the kids are put to bed and we don’t have to stay up super late finishing a game and we can do something together
