here's my chip in from someone externally following the protests for the entirety of its duration, up until China's takeover of HK's internal political affairs. I myself lean heavily against the protest (explained below) so take my perspective with the understand that i am very well biased, and not even a local. Just someone following the news for an extended period. The reasoning's of HK's protesting is long rooted in its history beyond just this single movement. It's not fair to view it solely from the start of 2019 until present day. There are a lot of policies and acts that i omit from my viewpoint so do take it into account. Hong Kong's issues stem deeply over just this movement, but my below will more or less focus just solely on the movement. Its a partial perspective that does not give anyone a full picture of the full issues that Hong Kong faces. - I'll just straight up tell you there is a lot of pandering and smoke with the coverage that comes out of the "protestors", be it pro-protest media, "independent" press and just protestors themselves. ie, the narrative on things in hong kong that gets translated to english / published outside of hong kong is more or less "tampered" with, or a better way to put it, just carefully dissected to fit a certain narrative. The publications that exist in cantonese and english are quite comically different. For an example, have you heard of the many cases and instances of teenagers or youngsters participating in arson or firebombing? i doubt much of that is portrayed in the English side of coverage of the events. The movement purportedly calls itself as having "no leader", which, i guess you can call it that so Joshua Wong wont take any blame for his roles in said movement. It dosent mean the movement isn't coordinated however. When the movement began it was a more or less peaceful movement for the first 2 weeks, but from then onwards it is a joke to call it anything peaceful. Thats just the image that gets portrayed the most to english-speaking audiences After the second week of protests, this movement is very well one that bases its energy off of destruction. Now i will say this is a huge generalization, but most of the conventions of protestors en masse focus around disruption and destruction of property in order to corece government decision. Stuff like raiding / desecrating the parliament chambers down to radical things like committing arson on businesses that don't support the movement, this is one of the realities of the movement that doesn't often get portrayed or shown to english audiences. There are of course peaceful sides to the movement, but with no "Leader" that can direct the protests, after the second week it has devolved into downright anarchy and terrorism, with most of its acts violent in nature, all the while trying to pass itself off as pacifist. I know the movement is directed towards the government. The actions of the protestors at such radical extreme's show their dissatisfaction towards their leadership. Even so, i doubt their actions as a whole will achieve much towards their agenda. The movement somewhere around a month onwards centered around the demand of "5 demands, not 1 less", with each finger in the hand signifying a demand for the government to fulfill. The key demands in it were that the bill be reversed, and most notably a demand that all arrested protesters be free'd **without facing charges**. The extradition bill was eventually withdrawn a couple months into the protests, but that wasn't enough to appease the movement because, well, they want all demands be met. The part about freeing protestors without charges will be clear if you understand the situation going on in HK to be completely rediculous. In the above when i mentioned about the movement being violent in nature, that is a huge understatement in relation to certain cases. I'll list a source that catalogues down all the protest-related aggression done by the protestors: www.truth-hk.com (complete the link yourself) To put it down lightly, the cases of aggression done by the "protestors", as a blanket statement, skirt on the edges of being downright terrorism. There are countless cases of civilians involved with obstructing the protests, or simply supporting the police / being anti-protest being hunted, beaten with bricks, assaulted, spray painted and in one instance, set on fire. All of these can be found in the above source. Outside of aggression towards civilians, I don't think its possible to list down just the sheer amount of vandalism and arson taken against whatever target the protestors view as being against their cause. Just know that even though the entire cause isn't focused on outright violence, there is a very large, but hidden, majority of the movement that is centered around destruction of all regards. This comment is getting very long, ill close off with it by comparing it to the civil movement of the BLM protests. You will find people that don't support it because of the violence and vandalism that goes on in it, even though they support the cause. I hope you can see me as one of them. The way China has a stranglehold over the politics and policies of Hong Kong, wanting to absorb it into its own even though they don't directly say that, is something that the people of HK has repeatedly expressed that they do not want. On the other hand, I hope everyone who supports the Hong Kong movement understands they are indirectly, or unknowingly, supporting an almost terroristic movement that repeatedly employs underage teens in acts of vandalism and arson to achieve its pressure and goals. The violence committed by protestors against the police, and even just ordinary citizens is horrific, and more people should know about these aggresions before viewing the protests from the sterilized, motive-focused narrative that gets published to the English speaking world. In short, you are supporting a terrorist movement that uses the guise of pacifism, that hijjacks the widespread hatred towards notions of "communism", for its own, albeit noble, goal. I just hope that anyone who still supports the protests understands the precedent of what supporting the movement means.

To be honest, since he’s a Hong konger, his mandarin would probably be really bad and unintelligible and English would be so much easier option where we could all understand. Fun fact: technically the UK didn't have to hand back Hong Kong island as the 99 year lease treaty was signed with the Qing Dynasty rather than China itself. Communist China was actually taken by surprise when Britain wanted to return the territory. This is similar to the USSR refusing to annex Mongolia as it believed the territory to be rightfully chinese (former Qing land) however the CCP saw it as a foreign country and didnt want to annex it. Another fun fact: part of the city of Hong Kong was actually originally annexed by the British Empire and was not required to be handed back to China at any point however because the city had expanded many amenities such as water and electric production were now outside this initial area of the city and so keeping it would become a logistical nightmare.

I’m a 1st gen chinese American. Chinese torture tactics are the basis of SERE school training because of torture experienced and reported by soldiers who had fought in Korea and in Vietnam. The US adapted those same markless and psychologically tolling (will I be waterboarded for the rest of my short unimaginably painful life?) methods of torture for their own uses. A lot of times I feel like I’m ashamed of both of my countries. As proud as I am to be who i am, I hate the politics behind my countries of origin. I hate that tiktok is almost certainly Chinese spyware, I hate that China is steadily spreading its roots throughout the entire planet, I hate that Hong Kong is not allowed it’s desired measure of independence. I hate that there is systematic and hereditary racism in the states, I hate that there is a tremendous disparity in wealth in the United States, I hate that there is an uncooperative and fundamentally flawed state and federal government, I hate our epidemic of mental health issues, I hate our lack of universal health care and I hate our tremendous debt almost certainly caused by our obsession with bombing people we feel we need to. And most of all, I hate that myself and my peers are responsible for fixing all of the problems we were born in to. Good luck to the interviewee with the rest of his life, seeing that he’ll be a fugitive in his home country for the foreseeable future. Good luck to us all.

Hard evidence he’s trying to lie in the interview. There’s literally footage showing him soliciting prostitution just do a search. Why would an activist who works for British government protesting in Hongkong went to another Chinese city to solicit prostitution? The whole interview feels like so scripted. They’ve done that with Xinjiang actors, too. Think about it.

@@jsrljt6836254 I wouldn't call it 'hard evidence', I just watched a video where he went up to a counter in some building. Could have been a doctors building? How can you know what business operates there? Also when it comes to politics, I ignore the irrelivant stuff, such as one side trying to discredit the other. It's happened so many times over here that its now obvious a lot of times when it happens. For me, it doesnt even matter if he did, because its no business of anyone else what he does in private. A lonely guy seeking the attention of a woman. Thats his own buisness, if it's even true! Also if he wants to deny it, then its because maybe his family and friends could be shamed so he would be protecting them and himself. This is the Chinese Government pointing the finger at him and saying he goes with prostitutes. Do you realize how insane that is? I rather focus on the bigger issue here, which is the Communist crazy people. Based on what I've seen I would say that the accusations against him are a lie. Give me a reason why you think this evidence is hard evidence and I will take a look, but at the moment it looked weak and misleading.

lol, this man arrested for calling prostitutes in Shenzhen, and the calling process video is available on Chese internet😂😂 Shenzhen polices didnot notice his family and girlfriend at the first time since this man insist not to tell them, but after he went out police station, he tell everyone that he didnt go whoring, and the police torture him. Then in order to reveal the truth, Shenzhen police station released videos about the process of his hiring prostitutes and the video about the man charged and confessed. it is hilarious , pity that KZbin delect these videos.
