When I was 5, my dad told me I should try the ladder game. I bear crawled as fast as I could and they told us politely to leave after I won 4 prizes. At the time they were bigger than me haha.

I was a kid when I tried this at the Rowan County Fair. It was called "Jacob's Ladder." The guy would demonstrate how it's done, then he'd hold the ladder still so you could balance yourself. If you could reach the prize board, where the prizes were fastened with clothes pins, you had to touch the one you wanted. There were $50 dollar bills and $100 dollar bills on the board.

ahh my god, this brings back memories :D Worked on this ride on Australian show in Melbourne and Sydney - took me a day to learn how to do it flawless but was running up it at the end. Doing it standing backwards is the trick ;) It's just balance so weight on both sides is the same.

i have a different method, put you body as close as possible to the ladder with arms behind the ladder so even if the ladder flips I can keep climbing upside down

i use to work this game at cedar point. after learning it and having good balance it is very easy they also encourage employees to play the game to get good at them. Anyone running this game can go up with no hands. I am fat and can do it with ease just takes practice

I worked in games at Kings Island during summer of '93, this was one of my games to work. Dan has it EXACTLY right the first time he does it. The only way you can really, consistently beat the game every time is by "walking" up the ladder like steps, you have to remain upright and not use your arms on the ladder, but held out from your body to balance. Of course, it takes good balance and practice, but it's actually an easy game. EVERYONE instinctively wants to go up the ladder on all fours and that rarely works.

That's actually the hardest way to climb it. If you just keep your hands and feet in the middle of the rungs as you climb it is MUCH easier. Which is why he can literally WALK up it without hands. Because he stays in the middle

no don't put ur hands in the middle or feet. the only reason he can walk up it is cause it acts as a tight rope. putting your hands Off sets the balance and messes it up. I am the new lead of that game and not 1 person has won putting hands or feet in the middle.

Where I live the owner who owns the ladder game will hold on to the ladder and then let go when your at the top so you would fall so I was climbing and I knew he would let go so I jumped for it and instead of a bell we have a buzzer so i jumped for it and hit it but I was kicked out for jumping for it

The video is cut at the end. If you keep going like he does at the beginning of the climb, the ladder swings and you fall towards the end of the climb. The ladder is attached at one point. This essentially creates a center of gravity of a line. If its allowed, walk up the ladder placing your feet at the very center of each rung to walk the line up and keep your balance.

I actually have beat this game and I did grab the ladder steps. The trick is coordinating your feet with your hands. for me I just did hand had foot foot pattern. also patience is the key.

i tried this up at Night Market in Vancouve BC, i figured out that you need to offset by moving your left hand/right foot simultaneously and vice versa. That's fairly obvious but it's still freaking hard to, only made it up halfway on 3 tries. Someone is definitely holding the ladder for him on his tries.

I watched someone do this 2x in a row and they cut him off from doing it again. He got mad and told everybody that you do not touch the wooded handles on the way up but instead the rope. It flexes and gives to your weight where as the wood handle toques the entire ladder. Watch when they demo it but when you do it they often tell you that you cannot touch the rope. Yes it takes practice but 95% of the players do not have a chance. His walking demo takes balance but I am sure if you tried it you would be disqualified if you won. To practice your balance in this position, try leaning against a couch like you were going to climb this ladder. You want the opposite hand and foot on the couch and floor and make sure you foot is on your toe. This should be much more wobbly than having a flat foot on the ground. If you can transition from foot to foot and arm to arm without falling and holding for a 30 or 60 second count between moves, you should have pretty good balance for this game. The more fluffy the couch cushion, the better.
