Featuring ‪@GreyWasteTim‬! The Forsaken features Barbrey's speech to Theon in the crypts about the Maester Conspiracy, Brandon Snow, & bloody blades, but also the Hooded Man, Theon's prayer to the weirwood, and plenty of Abel's "washerwomen."

The Ryswells are implied as horse skinshangers. Brandon liked to hang out with them. Him and Lyanna were like centaurs and so on. So if the young lord Dustin who died at the Tower of Joy had been a Ryswell, a skinchanger, he would have a second life in his horse. So Ned actually did something honourable when he returned the horse.

Maybe it was the same with Dawn? If Ned executed Arthur Dayne with his own sword. His soul could be trapped in Dawn, and then brought to rest or to a nice afterlife with his ancestors at Starfall. And again, that is a parallel to Ice. Ned is executed by his own sword. His blood and soul are in there. Rob wanted it back along with his bones. Perhaps both things are needed to pass to the afterlife in the Weirwoods. The proper rituals are needed as well. Cleaning the sword in the pond in front of the Heart tree, the bones among the roots and so on. It aligns with both the magic of the story as well as real world religious beliefs.

Hey, thanks for your content! Here are some thoughts I have about Barbery Dustin. Firstly, she surely knows that it’s not Arya Stark. I think she probably would have gone to a harvest feast at Winterfell and had an interest in Ned’s children. She would have noted Arya particularly as she was the only true born child of Ned that really looked like him. Ned has said how Arya looks like Lyanna, who it sounds like Barbery knew. Barbery had Jeyne Poole in her care right before the wedding, she had plenty of time to get a good look at her. Second, I think that Barbery may be bitter but she is really playing it up. Okay, yeah, she didn’t get to be a Stark and ended up marrying Lord Dustin who wasn’t her first choice. She was married to him for a very short time when he was sent away to war. I doubt she would have been super in love with him. In fact, his death made her the Lady of Barrowton ruling in her own right. Those wrongs perpetrated by the Starks are ancient history. Has she really been sitting there fanning those resentments? They are nothing compared to what the Boltons and Freys have done. She lost men at the red wedding and knows the Boltons were involved. She knows what Ramsey did to Lady Hornwood. Even if she wasn’t close with Lady Hornwood she must recognize the similarity of their circumstances and see herself a bit . She loved Domeric and knows Ramsey killed him. I think she is has actually been communicating with Manderly (eschewing the maesters and their ravens of course) and asks to see the crypts to verify his story. Her criticism about Manderly being a craven and being friendly with the Boltons despite the death of his son is actually a criticism of Roose (who does nothing to Ramsey even though he knows he killed Domeric)and an attempt to cover for Manderly’s over the top friendliness ( no subtlety whatsoever). When she tells Theon not to tell anyone what she said, she is fully counting on him to tell Roose or Ramsey; it’s an attempt to reinforce the idea that she’s on their side as she hates the Starks sooo much. The north remembers. Anyway, that’s my take. Sorry, little long.
@jsull81

All good points, and I definitely think she was down there to verify Manderly's story. It's why she mentions the swords being missing, because that's one of the details she was trying to verify

Can we talk about how the Winterfell crypts make no sense?? WHY would they start with the oldest Starks at the bottom??! The only answer I've ever seen that solves this, is that the crypts are a cave, a weirwood cave that the Starks started using. The are going to be running out of space very soon.

The parallel action of the Bran and Theon chapters always makes me feel like Theon is going to become Bran's tool in some way. Perhaps they do give Theon for the trees, only for him to rise as a zombie. Like Jaime, Theon's arc is predicated on the idea of redemption and we will see that arc finished when he finally has a vehicle to atone for his sins against his family (the Starks). Not sure what that vehicle is tho. PS - Tim's comment about the black coffin at the heart of winter reminds me of The Thing.

I think the whole point of Aaron holding the kingsmoot, an old tradition not used in ages, and we’re told the story of another ironborn leader whose name was Torran (I think) the “late comer” who should have been eligible for a kingsmoot in his time but couldn’t come, he made an appeal and the king from that moot was deposed and a new one was held and Mr. Late comer was chosen king. It seems likely we’re given this history to make a precedent for Theon to make his claim and sit the sea stone chair. Euron will claim it first by a false election by his own picked men and will very powerful so it’ll be hard to deny his the throne whether he’s legitimate or not, Theon can’t do it by force so he’ll likely do it thru political means while our hero’s destroy euron eventually. I think it fits in lots of ways for the characters and mag lead the iron born away from violence, I would certainly think Theon would decry no more thralls or slaves, no more gRape, no more torture. I could certainly be wrong and grrm has many options in where to lead the story

I love these streams and videos! It's interesting to me, the deeper I dive into these, how despite being a life long reader, that there is this...shadow world living beneath the story. I think my mind subconsciously has been picking up on it, even just reading the first line of this chapter, there's a poignancy to it that defies description. My mind revels in it, as it does these streams. Does anybody have a book or video they could recommend as to the fundamentals of symbolism, so that I could begin learning better on how to pick up on it, how to interpret it, etc? Hold on. This helps out my inkling that the line, “the Others take your eyes” , is really important. They’re doing something with brains and eyes. "Etymologically, the name Kyra has several possible origins. One theory suggests that it is the Anglicized version of the Greek name Kyriake, which means “of the Lord” or “belonging to the Lord.” Another possible root of the name Kyra is the Russian name Kira, which means “throne” or “ruler.” In Persian, Kyra means “like the sun,” and in Sanskrit, it means “a throne or seat of honor.” " Keira: "A modern feminine form of Kieran, from Irish ciar (“black, dark, little dark one”)."

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really like the "white walker day care" idea. As in they become baby white walkers and there is an actual white walker community in the lands of always winter. One of the things I like to do is to make book and show continuities both being able to exist within the same lore; due to this, I see White Walkers and The Others as two separate things (even though I'm sure they're supposed to be the same). The Others are the pale, icey shadows who are the expelled Greenmen spirits and the White Walkers are what we see in the show. Going a little off topic, but is the new Snow show picks up where Season 8 left off, there's no reason why it can't be revealed that both The Others and the White Walkers exist within the same continuity. Sorry for going off topic a little there, the notion of White Walker Day Care pricked my ears!

2:35:34 - mmm I'm not sure it's only symbolism! The barrows are telling us something important about the most ancient Northern burial customs, and we're exposed to then very early on in GoT. The first few chapters of the book give us all 3 in a row: being fed to the trees, being buried in crypts, and the barrows, which are the most ancient. Barrows are equivalent to cairns, which are supposedly what Ned did to his companions after the ToJ. I believe it's a hint that the first men's adoption of the CotF religion (post-barrows) had something sinister or tricksy about it, and we see that when it comes to regular humans joining/feeding the weirwood net - it's reserved for criminals, deserters and traitors. The Starks themselves don't partake, and seem fearful of releasing their souls inside the crypt (which very well may be a former weirwood cave)

DAVID!! I’m just at the point where you’re discussing the idea of Ygg the serpent god and the Yggdrasil weir woods, and I agree with you and Tim on the Lovecraft ghostwritten connection. But also in the Norse understanding of Yggdrasil, there is infact in most depictions a serpent within the roots of the tree. He has a significance that is escaping me this moment. One of Bran's chapters tells you where the secret tunnel is. Theon is being called to the weirwood by Bran. Bran will tell him the passageway. Just read bran's chapter where he is exploring winterfell :) "The builders had not even leveled the earth; there were hills and valleys behind the walls of Winterfell. There was a covered bridge that went from the fourth floor of the bell tower across to the second floor of the rookery. Bran knew about that. And he knew you could get inside the inner wall by the south gate, climb three floors and run all the way around Winterfell through a narrow tunnel in the stone, and then come out on ground level at the north gate, with a hundred feet of wall looming over you. Even Maester Luwin didn't know that, Bran was convinced." It mentions in this chapter that the two walls are filling with snow, so that may make accessing this entrance easier.

Could her husband still be alive in the Neck? Wouldn’t Ned have had his bones stored for later transport if he couldn’t bring them? It would be so important for the Lord of Barrows bones to be returned… If there wasn’t a fight at the Tower at all he could be hiding with the Reeds. Her reaction sure would be interesting if those old bones came out of the swamp… And who is still around now who knows Howland Reed by sight? Sansa, ?Alys?, Jeyne, and ?Cat? in the Lysa letter scene (maybe, foggy memory) all end up in a cloak from marriage. Furry one for marrying a skin-changer, I don’t remember Sansa’s but probably less animal-ish than the others. Barbary wears hers since she to married a skin-changer, (the cloak metaphor doubles as a clue link to the Boltons), specifically marrying Brandon at the tree with no witnesses. Her lips are “like Ramsey’s “ because she’s his actual mother. In some clue sets about the previous generation she’s the eldest sister of three: the other two Lyanna and Cat. Each dealt with similar marriage set ups in different ways, metaphorically like different timelines of what choices women have in this setting. Barbary plotted long revenge with the enemy of the Starks (note: she probably didn’t let Roose know), Lyanna tried to overthrow the government marrying someone who won’t or can’t sleep with her, and Cat went along with who she was given till she ended up in Lyanna’s and Barbary’s position later: literally no choice was the right one. The “stone women” stuff like “a lain stone” is because men are walking on them or/and being stepped over in hierarchy sense; which creates “Stoneheart” and terrible wrath… “a woman scorned” and all that. A dire warning about the power of woman and the consequences of treating them wrong. Literally a modern tale of ?Madea? from Greek Myth with the murder weddings and that Dowager queen from Shakespeare.

I don't buy Lady Dustin's story about how she hates Ned so much. She even says she hardly knew her husband. Plus, she's only a Dustin by marriage, so she likely doesn't hold burial quite as sacred as the blood of the Barrow Kings. BUT it's good enough to gain Theon's trust and get access to the crypts. I have a suspicion Barbrey was really in love with Ned, hence the last lingering look.

Why do the snowy sentinels have to be Others? To me, the fact that there are 79 (or whatever large number) sentinels at the Night Fort would suggest they are the whytes, just cause there are so many of them.

oh I mean we're talking symbolism here, there are more likely 7-9 Others than seventy nine haha

I find it annoying that everyone says the 3 eyed raven is Bloodraven. George hasn't verified that yet. I also think it's him but, we don't know yet lol

it's not annoying, it's directly implied by the story. Any other theory is far-fetched and counter-intuitive. Doesn't mean impossible, but there are zero clues that it's anyone else

79 sentinels were mentioned a lot this stream. Coincidence that 79 is a large prime number? Probably, but I noticed that.

Quite disappointed. I've sent through the same question twice on paypall and it's not been addressed. I wna support the program, Byt would be nice if my questions were addressed. Unfortunately I'm hardly ever able to catch the stream live. So I have to send my questions after the fact. Still, I support the programme, don't my questions deserve to be answered? Or is it cause my questions refer to menstruation and LML is too embarrassed to touch on the topic?

Just pointing out that the phrase moon blood is quite uncommon in the real world, but basically the only way Martin describes menstruation. I think its deliberate. I think he wants us to link broken moons and dragons and period blood. Just wanted LMLs input

@@Larissa1740pringiersit’s main function (I’m sure there are many functions to moon blood) in the story is to point to the moon as pregnancy: specifically Daenerys’ future daughter: the “song” of Ice and Fire, who will be given to the Others to replace to hive queen (who is leaving to start a new hive, died, or most likely dying.)
