Actually, this song is about PTSD. Lady Gaga describes with chosen, accurate and cruel words what happens and how you feel when you’re in a full PTSD crisis. It’s pure torture. This is exactly what it is. The monster in your head is eating you alive, again and again. The trigger is the term used to define the moment and the regular circumstance that triggers a PTSD crisis. Something wakes the traumatic memory up and it’s over, you dive into your worst nightmare : it can be a talk, a meeting, a smell connected to the trauma. I struggle with PTSD. And whereas I was in the worst moment of my life and desperately seeking for someone to help me and explain me what I was facing and how to defeat it, Lady Gaga’s witness on living with PTSD helped me in a way you can’t imagine. Thank you Gaga from the deep of my heart ! You’re an example to me ! I was just thinking, listening « Replay », « if I can dance on it, it means I’m better now, I won, life won and the monster in my head won’t come back anymore ». And so I did.
@05danmea4 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's about her PTSD, a main contributing factor of which were the rapes that occurred when she was 19 by the hands of a record producer. Although she has never named him, it is commonly believed to be Rob Fusari who (through Wendy Starland) discovered Gaga and helped her get signed. He also named her and produced a few of the songs on The Fame. This all fits perfectly with the lines "you're the worst thing and the best thing that's happened to me" on the song - without him she probably wouldn't be famous but he is also responsible for the worst thing that's ever happened to her.

@@05danmea About "the worst and the best thing", maybe you're right, it's quite possible. We have in France, a famous writer called Virginie Despentes, she says the same thing in "King kong theory" in which she told how she's been raped when she was 17. But sharing this painful experience with Lady Gaga, I have another meaning : in a way, my trauma and the PTSD following, made me a better person. I'm more empathic, and she has often said and I totally agree, kindness is the best cure and the best answer to PTSD and trauma. To survive, to keep living day after day, we have no other choice than to be the best version of ourselves. I wouldn't be the woman I am today, without facing and defeating the monster sleeping in my head. I admire Lady Gaga, for her dignity, her courage, her strength and the love she spreads all around her. God bless you all !
@taylorowen31914 жыл бұрын
I cried reading this. I feel the exact same way about this song. I also struggle with PTSD and the first time I heard this song it hit me differently than the rest of the album. It wasn't until the 6ths listen that I had to pause the song and let myself completely breakdown. This song forced me to confront memories and images in my mind that had to completely sort through. It still is a tough listen, but I fucking love this song. It's slow, alluring opening and chaotic drops are insane. I find myself dancing through my pain just as Gaga did. and I also agree, I've found that if I can dance to this song - I fucking won, too. We won. The monsters are gone.
