Welcome to the snack covenant! We got lots of snacks… And Lore! Hope things turn up for you. I remember first discovering Sinclair Lore a couple years ago when I wasn’t in the best place in life and just playing the original Dark Souls and binging their content for months straight. I came for the lore and stayed for the laughs :)

There’s no way to know anyone’s true motivations in Bloodborne without projecting, but I think it’s important to remember that Maria does tell the player why she’s trying to stop them from learning the truth. “I know how the secrets beckon so sweetly… A corpse should be left well alone” She’s willing to throw away self identity (like Malenia) and give in to her Bloodtinged heritage in order to stop a curious hunter on the quest to unveil secrets and power from raiding the Hamlet and desecrating Kos’s corpse further, or harming the Orphan. I interpret the fight as her throwing away her self actualization in a final bid to stop the crimes she enabled and/or committed in the Hamlet from happening again, even to a nightmare reflection of the Hamlet. In the end, Maria gives all that she is away to stop the knowledge hungry from raiding the Hamlet. True atonement

Again and again, Sophie knocks it out of the park! This analysis is so well put together, it might as well be better than canon, if not, as close to Myazak's thought process, as it gets. The ability to proofread Myazaki's work, is done SO well!! Redgrave is only jealous of your incredible insight. Your humble work is strongly acknowledged! Thank You for sharing! Great Group assembled here! Thanks once again!

loooved everything about this lore discussion! what i appreciate the most is that you talked about her relationship with adeline! i feel like so many people ignore that part of her lore even tho- i would- deem it extremely important! thank you for doing that! (and clarifying that she DOESN'T hate her heritage, with her garb and weapon she seemingly takes pride in it- albeit disagreeing with certain practices in her culture. love me some character depth mwah) and one last thing i'd like to add is why she tries to prevent the player from accessing the fishing hamlet-- it could also be that she genuinely wants the place to be left in peace without any disturbances that could also be taken under what you've already suggested tho- that she's trying to prevent it from happening again once again- loved this video, have a good one.

Think Kos would be happy because her Child’s shade would be released from Hell. That’s always what killing the shadowy soul thing coming out of Kos’ corpse after the fight seemed to be. The child might not ascend, but maybe it can be REBORN. (Pun but also the purpose our Hunter may serve in their own evolution. To carry the will of the Orphan’s blood onward.)

36:46 my assumtion, is kos isn't happy you killed her child. she's happy you freed him of his rage. Going on to what you said later. you freed him of his suffering and let him (his soul) return back to the ocean. his soul was trapped inside the nightmare. while his body died, his soul and mind was too restless, too vengeful, too angry. but you destroyed the nightmare and freed him. And sent him back to where he was meant to be. notice how despite his mother seeming to be mostly intact despite being a "rotting corpse". she's intact. cause that's what the child would remember his other to be. a beautiful figure. while he, he sees himself as a monster. a mosnter trapped in a nightmare of his own (and his mother) making. notice how the shadow (from what i could see) is no longer holding the fishhook. he no longer is holding onto his rage anymore. he no longer seeks vengeance. he let go of the thing that killed his mother. he let go of what caused him pain. and all you had to do now, was put him to rest. sever his connection to this realm and allow him to return home. that is what lifts the curse. that is what brings Kos and her child peace. To kos, even though she died, at least there was someone able to set her child free. released him from his pain. he no longer suffers. And to kos, this is all she could wamt/ for what does a mother want more, than her child's happiness? at least, this is my theory/ what I put together.

If we go with the idea that maria totally broke off from cainhurst, her clothing may also be a representation of inner turmoil at the point of her life when she was a hunter. She wears hunter's garb but the cainhurst style shows how she feels she can never fully escape her past

Question! Speaking of timeline, Sophie mentions the fishing Hamlet and Byrgenwerth stuff happened before the finding of Ebrietas. Did just Lawrence and his separatists find Ebrietas or did they all find her as one Byrgenwerth under Willium still, aka before the split?
@sophie.m.pilbeam
@sophie.m.pilbeam 2 жыл бұрын
They find her in Isz, and the Isz chalice is called "the first Great Chalice brought back to the surface since the time of Byrgenwerth", which implies Byrgenwerth had collapsed by then.

So when we kill Maria, is her soul gone/crossed over or will she just reform later as her soul is imprissoned in the Hunter's Nightmare? Like I know we end the Nightmare, but if we didn't, was she free of the Nightmare or just temporarily weakened/incapacitated?

What am I missing with the dreadful moral crises everyone has over the fishing Hamlet? Aren't these people all slaughterers beforehand already or was this like their first excursion? I never understood how they could mutilate en masse and then get THAT hung up over it..just makes you wonder what really went down there
@trippyalan8165
@trippyalan8165 2 жыл бұрын
I think its because they were just hunters, killing small beasts cleanly and quickly. The fishing hamlet was a slaughter and defilement of the hamlet’s people and possibly kos herself. Killing a beast and defiling children, women and gods are very different. It’s not only Maria that’s really effected by this btw, she is shown more obviously but even Gehrman is deeply scarred by this, he even tells you to not think too much about all this and to just do your job, lest you turn out like him.
