Thanks for everyone's comments on the previous video. In this video I have a go at getting a patina on some cold cast resin.

COUGH more mechs! Found you on the scratchbuild book btw!! Im in there as well. Why did you go for the cyborg build? My fav is still the mouse strider!

Haha, I'm working on a mech at the mo actually. They actually asked to include the cyborg, so it wasn't my suggestion, although I do like that one.

@@thedarkpower I know how that feels. I wanted to put in one of my kitbashes, but they wanted my metal insects.

Fascinating results! I really love the textures you are achieving. Regarding the varnish, I assume you are using a matte / satin varnish? In my experience, using a gloss varnish will deepen colors, making them richer. But the downside is that rust / patina in general isn't supposed to be shiny. Just a thought.

Thanks! Ah interesting, someone said to me that a way to do it is that if you want a matte finish, do the initial layers gloss to deepen the colours but then do the final layer as matte. That way you get the best of both worlds. I'll have to give it a go.

Fantastic results!! Especially the texture. Love it. .. I wonder what one would look like if you tilt the pieces vertically so the solution runs downwards, like years of rain? I like the copper effect, I've only worked with bronze powder and black resin. For the bronze finish I coat the piece in black shoe polish then buff it with wire wool for the highlights. Only used the verdigris patina on one or two pieces but for colour purposes not decay. (Bronzed frog on green Lilly pad), anyway, great stuff fella!

Cheers dude. You know what, I was thinking at one stage of using a pump from a fish tank to continuously run water over the piece. Might get the effect you're thinking of. I have tried boot polish, got quite a nice effect 😁

I meant 'run patination fluid over it' ;)

I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong but I always just dump a ton of powder in the mould then roll it round the mould to cover it all. Then empty the excess and give a decent tap to remove anything loose. This seems to give a nice even coating and *touch wood* I’ve not had issues with the resin not binding to it.
