This requires some open mindedness and willingness to engage with a stranger. If everyone is afraid to start a conversation for fear of being deemed racist, that would also be racist. We must not place barriers to diverse conversations. We should embrace the opportunity to make a connection if someone asks, where are you from, and answer in a manner that facilitates conversation. The only Reason this happened is because her Donations plummeted and it's Damage Control.And the reality that a investigation was demanded from the public on her Charity .

Lady Hussey was a Lady in Waiting, it was her job to get the back story on anyone before they speak to the Queen Consort. Her job was to ask the woman in the Ethnic Dress where the outfit was from. She only did her job. To say she was a little blunt or rude may be worth discussion but there was no racism involved.
@c.m.cordero17722 жыл бұрын
She was rude. Probably not racist. I’ve heard her described as “ elderly” and ,by some, perhaps “not quite as sharp as she once was”. If true…why is she doing the “ vetting” ( getting the backstory)? And why should anybody be vetted when they’re already there? Seems backwards to me. Anyone coming into the presence of heads of state or people adjacent to them ,in formal social situations ,should be vetted already.
@Jamie-Z2 жыл бұрын
@@c.m.cordero1772 I guess from what you say, that you must be from the US. Lady Hussey is not involved in any way with vetting, the police do that. She is there to get the back story on each person and as they approach the Queen Consort say "and this is blah blah blah". Just the back story to start a conversation and nothing whatsoever to do with vetting them to make sure they are not terrorists. Very different. She is from a different time when manners were somewhat different. She would not tollerate the rude way some people evade the question and say something stupid like "I am British" when wearing a traditional costume that is clearly not British and would not see it as offensive to brush someone's hair away when it is obstructing their nametag. Nowadays we have to do stupid linguistic dance routines to avoid offending someone who is very clearly seeking offence. I think Headley should have been thrown out for causing such turmoil and seeking problems.

Thank you Sunil Sharma....as an Africa completely agree with you. I am so sick of the likes of Ngozi Feloney who are race baiting. Thank you Lady Susan for taking the high road and apologising even though as an African I don’t think you needed to apologise to this fraud Ngozi.

Have the RF called off the charity commission investigation into her charity for her to accept this apology? Makes me want to scream ....this sets a presindence for anybody to claim racism with no proof!!

Yes, agreed. When words of racism, abuse, trauma, are thrown out there indiscriminately, they lose their impact when real abuse takes place.

Yes, media is equally responsible, if not more so, for this blown out of proportion mess. Reporting only one side of a story, knowing full well that Lady Susan couldn't, (nor would) give her side.

British people are always blamed for slavery and racism. We know both existed, but from many countries, and wrong on all accounts. What isn't recognised is Britain's declaring slavery as wrong, and fighting to shut it down, taking on countries that refused to give up the slave trade, such as the Portuguese, French, Spanish, etc, including some parts of Africa. The British incurred enormous debt, paying for freedom of slaves that their 'owners' wouldn't let go, a debt that was only recently paid up in full, in the year 2015. This part of history is mostly ignored, allowing the resentments to continue. I don't live in the UK, I'm not biased by ethnicity, I just happen to feel saddened to see one country taking on most, if not all of past wrongdoings, when they actually brought that particular era to an end. It's history and well documented.

Lady Susan worded her questions awkwardly. Marlene knew exactly what the elderly lady was interested in. I’m sick and tired of the vicious racist warriors. If I had come across Marlene in that bizarre outfit, I would have known better than to engage her in conversation, but I’m streetwise.

With a made up African name, insulting at that. It's likely what caused Lady Susan to move her hair aside to see Ms Headleys' name tag, being well travelled and old enough to recall history, Lady S would have been appalled at the insensitivity of pairing the Igbo name, Ngozi, with Fulani.
