I laughed when you said you were giving yourself 30 minutes to learn to pipe a rose on a nail head! I learned in high school at a vocational school. I learned to make roses after about 18 months. Some of the fellow students never learned, even after 3 years. You did really well for a first go round. You could practice on icing roses and put them on a sheet tray. I use kid scissors to get the roses off the nail. It's like cutting them off the nail or paper only you only partially "cut " the rose off. Pretty soap!

Amazing effort on the roses! Congrats. :) So much fun playing with new ideas and techniques. Tip: the bakers use scissors to pick up the piped flowers from the paper and for placing them on the cake, well soap in this case.

Thank you Corry! What I'm doing since this video is making roses, chrysanthemums and other flowers a day or two ahead of time. Then I don't have to worry about what the batter in the mold is doing. I just put the soap flowers on top of the batter or on the cupcakes. So much better than what I did in this video. And thanks for the tip: I've seen it done and might try it with cake decorating--some day.

Not too bad...I have done cake decorating & after retiring I am doing soaping. You did well. After your initial bud, try lowering your piping hand to get closer to bud base and thus flair the petal lip out more. I usually do one very very tiny tap when done, to help the petal lip to come over & down some to look more realistic. You might wait till you try a few more times first. Very nice top with the little accent flowers. Kudo to you :)
@LadybugLaneSoaps6 жыл бұрын
Cheryl, do you mean "wait till you try a few more times first" at piping before I video myself doing it for the first time?
@cheryl7396 жыл бұрын
So glad you taped it. I love your videos & creativity in color choice. I guess I put that wrong. I just meant that after the bud and a few petals, lower your piping hand a little bit more, this tends to attach the petal to the base firmly and allows the outside top edge of the petal to slightly lower like a rose does. I wouldn't tap the whole rose just slightly till you get better at it, is all I was suggesting. Please excuse me, sometimes it isn't easy to type on this thing :) I so enjoy watching you soap & hope that I made a little bit of sense.

very very pretty to be the first time. How long you leave the soap bar before you put the flowers? do you protect the soap bar from ash in the meantime? thanks
@LadybugLaneSoaps6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Guadalupe! :) For those roses I put them in the freezer or refrigerator for a few minutes while I put the batter in the piping bags for the leaves and the white flowers. Then I quickly put the roses on the top of the soap while the soap was still sticky. Soda ash doesn't happen that fast--thank goodness. I use less water (water discounting) which helps prevent soda ash from happening--about 99% of the time--for me.

@LadybugLaneSoaps6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment! To answer your question: I use the same soap batter for what's in the mold as well as the flowers I pipe. The batter needs to sit for a while--sometimes up to an hour to achieve the thick consistency to hold the shape of a rose or chrysanthemum. My oils and lye liquid are around 80 to 85 when I combine them. Happy soaping! :)

Dear Nelinda, I do not know Spanish but Google did translate your sentence. "But do not talk so much because work almost never sees one everything but the final." I don't know if it is correct or not. I appreciate you watching my videos. However, if you do not care for my talking and explaining things which are helpful to many, then my videos will not be of much interest to you. There are soaping videos on KZbin with no talking, only music, they are short, fast-paced pieces which gives the viewer a sense of entertainment--which is perfectly fine if that is what you are looking for. I do a lot of talking because I explain, teach, don't mind sharing my mistakes, and share advise to guide new soapers in their cold process soap journey. :)
