Since there was a lot of interest in the topic, I'm going over-some of my top safety protocol tips that’ll help you maintain a measure of security no matter what situation you’re facing.

I work in law enforcement. Before you go somewhere, research the area. There are crime stats you can research for some areas. It will show how many crimes and what crimes were committed in that area. I bought my house using the data. The most important tip is your sixth sense. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. I'd advise any person, especially a woman to carry a firearm. It's sad that we need to think this way but it will save your life. Great tips Dee.

I called the police department yesterday to ask about what protection was available and legal. I have pepper spray but that could backfire so I don't completely trust it on a person. I'm smart enough to stay away from bears. 😊 Someone mentioned a proper ball gun but it doesn't sound legal. I have thought about a handgun but tbh the first time I shot a 9mm I never wanted to do it again because it was too easy, I felt, you know? I didn't want that much responsibility in my hand. I never want to take a life but if I had to, to keep myself from dying, I would do what I had to. I had to leave a voicemail for the shift supervisor so I'm hoping to hear back Monday. I start my solo adventures tomorrow night. 😊

I used to work at a club close very to home and finish work late at night. I used to walk home and hold my keys with a key in between each finger, hanging out near my knuckles. A female, no matter how strong, could cause pain to a strong man with one strike to give you enough time to run and escape. I have lived through many life-threatening situations, and each time, i never woke up in the morning, expecting that my day would end that way. Always be prepared as you never know and listen to your gut instinct. Your natural alarm system. ❤

#1 Personal Pow Pow. (checking local laws) #2 If you are uncomfortable, Leave. #3 If you are in a city or town, talk to the Authorities. Let them run a Background check, knowing who you are may sidestep that knock. Ask the police where you can park, they will alert other Cops if they hear about you. "She's okay, I've run a background, I told her to park there." #4 All those other things you listed... Good Advice.

Hey Ms. Dee! Wasp and hornet spray. with 20' range is also effective on 2 and 4 legged animals. The foamy kind lets you see where you've hit. I'd guess it's cheaper than bear spray.

I was visited, in an RV, one night. I yelled and the guy left (just a thief) but still… It left a bad feeling for a long time. I feel safer in my mini van as when I’m inside, if I feel it’s a good idea to add some protection : it’s easier to make the entry more difficult. Inside, I strap the left front door’s handle to the left back sliding door’s handle. I do the same on the right. And I strap the trunk’s door handle to one of the car attachement point inside.

This was a very good video and needs to be reiterated often. People tend to drop their guard after periods of no incidences. Also, in hiking three long blasts of a whistle signifies distress. So three long blasts of your car horn tells others yo need help. Your gut feeling is the the strong point of situational awareness. Great video, Dee!

Hi and greetings from Europe, a former Brit policeman who travels a lot gave me the next tips: where there is glass on the ground there are possible break ins. Where there are used condoms in the bushes, well that's not a nice place to stay either, those used small gas holders same thing. And yes I will buy some stuff you talked about, thanks for the advice 👍.

Interesting you mention lay on the horn this just happened to me and that is what I did. I was parked in a parking lot with a lot of other RVs but we were all spread out. This was a Harvest Host which was a museum and offered electric so I was plugged in. About 4 am I heard this banging so I got up and looked outside and this pick up truck was parked at an angle facing me with its headlights on. I kept hearing the banging so all these thoughts are going through my mind. I would have taken off but I was plugged in. If need be I would just pull away and risk the damage but I wanted to make sure I was in danger before I damaged my van. So I decided to honk and see if they left, etc. They still sat there so I laid on the horn several times. Then they shut their lights off. It ended up being a group of like 20 men putting red cones out for a police practice. I am like at 4 am and why the heck would they park next to me at an angle. It was not like they were even in a parking spot. I am not sure if these were actual police officers or maybe they were recruits, but they should have had common sense than to park pointing at someones van/rv and leaving their lights on at 4 am.

I rely heavily on my dogs, they can hear, smell and see better than me, they’re trained to protect me and while little dogs are convenient because of size they don’t do much to deter bad people, even at camp and even though they’re on tie outs like you’re supposed to do, a growling 70 lbs pit bull will make someone think twice, if they think they can handle one, surprise surprise, I have 2 while I get something to defend us. That being said your tips about being aware of glass, needless and other things are definitely a must and great advice in conjunction with my dogs. Thanks for the video.

All good tips Dee, and it is just smart to review these safety tips on a regular basis. It is the world in which we live, and although most people are good, it only takes a few bad ones to ruin things for everyone. But you do have to balance fear levels so that you can go out and enjoy life. I think you have a healthy balance Dee, thanks for sharing and have a great week! 🥰

I’m about to turn 53. I have stage 4 lung cancer and had a widow maker a year ago last December. I became angry and loud and my girlfriend kicked me out. I just got a 2017 transit 250 and it looks like I’m doing vanlife. I’m on the east coast and completely unprepared for what happening. Obviously I can’t work and I don’t want to end up dying in a van. I’m trying to be positive about it. I don’t blame anyone but myself but absolutely could use some encouragement.

When I hit the road I was carrying some tough stuff much like you (different story, but hurtin' inside). Then the most amazing and unpredictable thing happened. It was scary and hard at first to be sure, but ended up profoundly changing my life. Healing. I reconciled with some family members, for one. I recommend this lifestyle to anyone for however long you can do it.

Thank you for the great advice. My brakes went out in me andy auto insurance was not doing as it was supposed to. They would say they were sending someone but no one ever came. Drug deals and shady characters...let's just say it was very scary once it got dark. Lucky I wasn't too far out from where I lived and a friend came to my rescue. Triple A is now in my pocket

The sound of your horn reminded me ( for the umpteenth time ) to shop for a replacement horn for my 2018 Chevy Express. To say it sounds anemic would be an understatement. Also, my sister says I'm paranoid when I tell her to be aware of her surroundings, I just tell her she's naive. Gets a little quiet after that. 😂

Very good information, thank you I had a new learning experience yesterday I was I was parked in a local park next to someone else sitting in their SUV as soon as I got out of my car go door, the gentleman approached me around the front of my van as I was backed in and it was early afternoon. There was a school bus across the lot so I was not alone in the parking lot, and I talked to him he seemed nice but he had one arm behind his back and he was a little bit too close where I felt cornered. I chatted with him a little bit and it was a pleasant conversation but nonetheless I'm using that as a learning experience I had my finger on my key fob and position myself to jump in my vehicle shut off the alarm if needed

Thank you for the tips. I have the same van that I am working on conversion for camper. However, my van has problems with the locks on all doors. The front door's automatically unlocked every time I use the key to lock it. I try to lock inside then it keep unlocking. And no central lock on Ford Transit Connect, so I need to make sure the rear door is locked. 😐 I don't know if you have the same experiences? I am thinking to install some kind of deadbolt lock in the back of my van. Or expensive lock such as thunderbolt lock or Legend lock. Do you have any recommendation? Thank you so much!!
@LadyBugout
@LadyBugout 7 күн бұрын
My locks aren’t automatic. So I have to lock and unlock with the key one at a time. I have no experience with installing locks or deadbolts so I have no useful info on that. Sorry not to have better info for you, except maybe try looking online for Van lock solutions. 🤗

I’m Australian and know you can be in danger hundreds of miles from any people, there are some places I just wouldn’t go. People remain your greatest danger and people are also your greatest saviour,birds of a feather should flock together. Dingoes are always looking for the easy meal,so don’t make yourself an easy target. Listen to yourself, it’s the beauty of being mobile, if you feel uneasy for what ever reason don’t hesitate to leave, you can always have a laugh about it later . You also unlike us Aussies 🦘🐨 is you have the second amendment,don’t be scared of being trained up and be for ever ready. My experience is that the training is great fun and you will meet a lot of incredibly lovely people that are more interested in protecting their loved ones more than anything else . You truly have to be unlucky to require anything in the way of protection but being prepared will always make you stronger. Stay strong,happy travels ❤️❤️😎😇🙏🙏🦘🐨🇦🇺
