I'm interested to know if your ram ProMaster is as bouncy as mine was. Although I loved traveling in it, it was impossible to keep things in the back in place. I traded it in after only 8 months and I'm now keeping my eye open for a small pull-behind trailer.

I’m a big fan of the no-build build. The upfitter items are designed for a vehicle, so makes a lot of sense. I have a no-build transit connect. Trickiest issues are finding items that fit van dimensions, and securing everything. Can’t wait to see what you do!

Those panels are worth using

What a great beginning to a wonderful build. I have the 159wb 2017. It cost me about $2.5k to DIY build out my van including everything but the Solar $2500, Fridge $1k and heater $400. I used 3" pink poly foam for the walls R15, and 1" Poly for the ceiling. What a great build you've started. All the decisions ahead are so exciting. What will you do for electrical? I ran all the electrical myself and it all comes to a plug and play solar system that is self contained- easiest part of the build. How exciting. You can do this. I used only basic tools and was able to accomplish more than I ever expected to.

Wow- this is so cool that you are doing this! I LOVE my little Ford transit connect, but I always wonder about getting a van that I could stand up in, sometime in the future. I was so sad when you posted that you were wondering whether you needed to stop Van Life- SO glad you are still 'on the road.' That experience of meeting up at RTR will always be a special memory for me.

Don't use pressure treated wood. 8t has salt in it, causing rust at all contact points

I understand totally. Same thing happened to me with my 2005 Toyota Sienna. I was very attached to her. My dog and I went to a lot of places in that car. Now we are looking for a Nissan NV 200. Great little van. Cant wait to find one. I am giving the Toyota to my brother, who is going to work on her. So she will be staying in the family. 😊

Hi Dee!!!! I love the new van. It seems like the perfect size upgrade for you. You just save yourself ALOT of work with those new panels. Not to mention weight (in comparison to framing/wood). Hi Dee, I’m looking forward to your build. I think the estimates you quoted for a diy build are extremely high. You don’t need pressure treated plywood and Thinsulate is the most expensive insulation option. I’m sure you could do a build for much less, but if you have the budget go for it.

Your build is looking awesome. The laser cut is fantastic if your template is spot on. Wow awesome thinking outside the box.

I will not discard any original parts from the vehicle, that is special , and it will protect you from exterior elements. If I remove cover to add insulation and electricity plus windows, I will put back those plastic covers. Same for the floor. More protection, for my taste. ❤
