I like this tune...even if overly commercial with GaGa's over the top getup...needed this to help establish her and be talked about...respect her more in A Star Is Born. No make-up (or next to none)...she just sang!! She can carry a tune. But she'll never be "the next Whitney Houston" or Glennis Grace.

I have big respect for Lady Gaga for highlighting the saxophone player in this video. Just in case some of you don't know, the sax player is Clarence Anicholas Clemons Jr., also known as The Big Man. He was a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. This was the last collaboration he recorded and he suffered a major stroke days after filming this music video. He even played it live for the last time in Gaga's American Idol performance of this song despite being terminally ill, and he died two weeks after that particular performance.

technically, this is still ahead of its time. the concept of licking a NYC sidewalk from a position of prayer would meet hard resistance if someone attempted to publish it 2020+, and in 2024+ the idea of someone dancing *between* a red window and blue window (or existing *between* life and choice, for that matter) would be abhorrent. I think at the time of actual publication, there was an issue with using the fire escape as a set. In each era you will receive resistance to your brilliance; either pick your battles or blow them away with something undeniably powerful.

Madonna inspired lady gaga and madonna as she got older became a philanthropist. She adopted children of all different races and she still performs and drops music. How fitting, considering the song is about celebrating a glorious life and being unafraid of reaching the end of it. And of course Gaga decked out in Versace, the dream of any NYC Italian immigrant family girl. Epic video.

I remember playing this for my late husband shortly before he passed away. He commented, "She wants to be another Madonna, doesn't she?". I said, "Dragon, this was a song she wrote commemorating the love between her grandparents. That's the kind of love I have for you". With tears in his eyes, he got very silent and held my hand. Requiem en pace my darling dragon. This upcoming Thursday, 10/29/2020, marks seven years since you flew away to your new home in the night skies with the moon and stars as your constant companions. I shall always love you and will think of our time together fondly. Until we meet again my first love 💕🐉💕

Gagas age has nothing to do with how bad joanne is. Joanne is bad because she gave in to what the critics and mainstream wanted. A grounded and generic gaga. What happened " To crash the critic saying is it right or is it wrong" or "Judas is me in defense or wear ear condom next time" She was original and a travesty. And we loved her because of that. Now shes just what everyone wanted. And its sad.
@LanaDayne8 жыл бұрын
gdsmzroll 1st. it's "Judas kiss me if offensed or wear a ear condom next time" 2nd. she even said it herself that it's hard for some fans to transition from the last album era, like yourself. she even said that she's 30 now, and this is what she wants to do. pre-joanne was what everyone expected and wanted. the joanne era is gaga being Stefani

Honestly, no. ARTPOP was Gaga trying to mold her music to (what she thought) the mainstream wanted. Go listen to "Blueberry Kisses", then listen to "Just Another Day". JOANNE is Gaga stripped of the cruft.

@@alexanderkvitrovn9828 she’s also highly associated with the lgbtq+ community and many cishet people find her too dramatic or weird. I was also always teased for liking her for these reasons. i wonder if she really knows the ENTIRE generation of LGBT people she singlehandedly *saved* with this album like if you were a young LGBT teen living in 2010/2011 you know that shit was hard, i feel like we all can agree on that. We still had zero to NO visibility on the media, the suicide and homicide cases were astounding. Gaga bought these issues to the mainstream, taking these glorious lyrics from the title track banging on radios across the world, on TV with live performances. Today it's definitely come such a long way and yet we are a little behind the middle of it. BTW was truly the definition of a cultural reset.

This song was about Lady Gaga's grandfather. The edge of glory was the moment he died. “The song was about how when my grandma was standing over my grandfather while he was dying. There was this moment where I felt like he had sort of looked at her and reckoned that he had won in life. Like, ‘I’m a champion. We won. Our love made us a winner.’ They were married 60 years. I thought about that idea, that the glorious moment of your life is when you decide that it’s okay to go, you don’t have any more words to say, more business, more mountains to climb. You’re on the cliff, you tip your hat to yourself and you go. That’s what it was for me in that moment when I witnessed it.” -Gaga talking to Jon Pareles of The New York Times about the song

I gained even more respect for Gaga when I learned that one of her earliest inspirations for music was none other than Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run record, she talked about how magical that opening piano sounded at the beginning and how cinematic and dramatic great music could be. And the fact that she takes her name from a song by Queen! This girl knows her stuff, and is taking all the best of the great music of the past and synthesizing it into her own brand of powerful, high energy music. Now she's acting and winning oscars and Grammys! This is no flash in the pan one trick pony pop star here, folks, this woman is a sensation and one can only hope she'll be doing what she does for a long time!

It seems to me that this is her most underrated single. The lyrics, the video, the melody is magical. It should've been her most iconic song!
@boobs23238 жыл бұрын
thats what i thought too.. i think its one of her best singles outhere

Exactly! It's the most "gaga" album (best adjective ever xd)
@SubstanceD918 жыл бұрын
It's only good if you love gaga or 80s music (which this is trying to emulate). Otherwise it just sounds weird which is why it didn't get much play on the radio. But I will also agree that this is my favorite song she's done.

I'm a rock fan, and I know how we can have prejudice about this kind of music. But I was told that Lady Gaga have talent, so I started to listen some of her songs. And I must say: indeed she has talent. But this song... that's her best song in my opinion. It's in my top 10 pop songs of all time. It's such a powerful song. And that's her best video also. She's sexier than ever. And yet, she looks so confident, like she's in control of everything. The edge of glory really belongs to her. As far as I know she worked hard to reach it, and I'm really proud of her. Gaga just earned another fan.

CHRISTOPHER DUNCAN maybe, but compared to her other songs like bad romance where one second she's looking like the villain from the power puff girls to being covered in dirt and ashes in a bra and panties next to the skeletal remains of her Russian lover, this is nothing
