Royal Albatross ~ LGL & WYL Come Home To Feed Their Chicks! 💗 Sweet Neighborly Interactions 3.14.24

This was a very interesting interaction by WYL and LGL when they came in to feed their chicks! First WYL arrives and he feeds TFT and sits and rests a while- then gives a 2nd feeding! TFT gets a huge piece (looks like a tentacle) and swallows it. WYL then leaves his nest and comes over to TF's nest and does some Albie- chick-sitting 🙂 Uncle WYL is such a great albie pseudo parent to TF.
LGL arrives back and walks up to her nest and has some neighborly interactions and preening with WYL. LGL walks over to TFT nest and WYL comes over and they have another preening session.
Albatross commonly will preen one another to remove head lice. It does not mean that they are interested in a new mate. LGL then returns to TF and gives her chick a feeding.
LGL returns to WYL and TFT and they interact once another. Looks like LGL does nudge TFT with her bill gently - TFT wants Dad all to his self! WYL starts in on giving TFT a 3rd feeding and LGL will leave. WYL departs shortly after LGL. TFT's weight should get a big bump up from today's feedings!! And will TF be able to maintain his status as the heaviest chick in the colony again next week? ♥

19:48 TF does the cutest squee’ing sounds 😄🥰😍, can you imagine seeing one of them in person, and hearing them do a little squee like at 24:53?! That would be wayyyyy too cute!! what precious babies TF and TFT are!! 🥰 It’s so awesome this year how these two albie families are so friendly with each other and that they live so close 😊, the babies are lucky this year. Thank you for sharing Lady Hawk! I also wonder if TF will maintain his status as heaviest chick! His royal roundness the second has been getting some good feedings so well see! And TFT got a good feeding today too I’m happy for him! I didn’t quite see the nudge from LGL to TFT, do you think it was aggressive? Some people were saying that they thought when she interacted with TFT the other day and the fluff was in her bill that it was an act of aggression. Do you think it was? Or was she just curious and got carried away? I need to rewatch their interaction in this video too , I’m sure it was harmless in both cases though !

It continues to fascinate me to watch these two nests so close together, and the interactions that result. A question for you, Lady Hawk (or any other long-time viewer): I’ve been watching the Royal Cam since Tiaki. Granted, my memory is not was, but I don’t recall seeing two nests this near to one another. Yes, there have been interactions between the chicks in the past; but my memory is that it was’t as if the chicks were right next door to each other. I'd posted a question to LH or anyone - it seemed as if TFT's nest moved from the left side of TF's nest (facing outward) - almost completely in line across from each other. I've never seen that happen. I forgot to check back to see if anyone answered me. Stephanie

Thank you, dear Lady Hawk! What an interesting and informative video this one is, showing some different kinds of interactions that we have not often seen between neighboring parent albies. So nice that in the long-term, this adds to the life-experiences/memories that each chick stores away for future reference, never mind "when," for every social experience must somehow help them along when their times come home to socialize some-year in the future! The chicks seem to accept their parents' behaviors and pay attention, waiting for their own parent to serve up some dinner! They are indeed happily-growing chicks, always looking forward to the next meal and practicing their wingercises, leg/paddle-squats, chick-chat, and so on between meals. I am certain that when I have not been watching, His Royal Roundness Prince TF has enlarged his nest to make it comfortable as he grows (and TFT chick, too!). This season seems to be unfolding more quickly than any other, or so it seems to this albie-auntie. Before we know it, the chicks will be paddling-about and paying "teatime-visits" to each other! ✨✨💖💖💗💗💖💖✨✨
