Years ago there was a baby that was much younger that was lost to rat poisoning. Apparently there is a level that isn’t enough to kill an adult eagle that babies can’t survive. This was during Harriet’s tenure on the nest. My hope is the adults will survive whatever is happening. When they lost the baby to rat poison they started over and had a very late season where two babies still successfully fledged. Still heartbreaking either way. 😭

​@@MxPx77I Remember that very well.. E14 was the only hatchling.. after she passed, E15 & E16 were known as the 'Miracle Clutch'. They were Beautiful! I think E15 stayed longer than any other Eaglet ever!☺️ Harriet & M would stare down at their Big Gigantic Baby in the nest.. and discuss what they should do about her. Oh Lady Hawk. I popped in early this morning to check on E25 and saw our second precious eaglet. I cannot watch again. THIS IS NOT GOOD! Something is VERY WRONG. Harriet was so special because she would go to her sick eaglet and he on the nest with them. It was heartbreaking when E12 bled to death. Harriet was with her/him the whole time. She was so special.

I am hoping the cause is not H5N1. This waiting period is going to be difficult. I read an article that in Virginia they have been testing eagles and many have tested positive. However, healthy adults tend to recover but eaglets are just too fragile for the virus. I am so glad that CROW is staying on-site to monitor the parents and is ready to take action if they see any signs that they are sick. My morning routine: turn on the Nest channel, make coffee, and check in on this family. I have watched this nest for 8 years. I have been in tears for two days now. I am grateful for this community so that we can all grieve together.

When I saw E 24 my first thought was poison. It is now increasingly serious. I have been watching nests since 2016 and each unnecessary death is heart wrenching. Longest 20 minutes in their short lives. 😢😢😢

After the first eaglet died I thought it was either poison or something wrong with one of the food sources being fed to both birds. I thought they should have taken the other eaglet when they took the sibling's body yesterday because if a layman such as I thought that the other eaglet would have a seizure and die the same way shortly after the first death (and that's what I thought) they should have seen this outcome as a strong possibility. Of course, hindsight is 20/20.

Oh that poor baby suffered so much. 25 kept fighting it and trying to stand normally. So awful. Breaks my heart tremendously. Hated how 25 squeaked with pain. 💔😓 I can’t believe neither M or F23 went down to check what was going on. I remember M would jump to the nest to check on Harriet and other Eaglets in the past. Surprising especially after 24 died the day before. I feel awful that 25 died all alone. 💔💔

There are no words, and there really can't be any... such a beautiful and "sunny" nest swept away in a few terrible hours..... The promise that nature had made to F23 and M15 has been lost, breaking our hearts forever.... I send my positive thoughts to this nest, so that nothing else tragic happens: it would be devastating, unbearable. And I hope that what happened is understood, so that the cause is somehow removed and does not generate other losses. I send a big hug from afar all the friends of this nest, sharing with them the immense sense of loss.

The whole family seemed off yesterday(1/27) and I chalked it up to the loss of E24 but now I'm terrified beyond measure for what this might mean for the whole family. It's just hard to believe this is reality, the Es were starting to self feed and starting to really move around the nest, this is definitely not what any of us thought would happen. Something has got to change. If there were something wiping out entire human families then the government would step in and ban it so why not for our animal families 😢

I’m sending a lot of prayers to your mom and dad F 23 and M 15. I sure hope they’re not sick as well. I watched you do when you hatched. E25 seemed to start acting off balance hours prior. This is so so sad, but I expected it. Praying for mom and dad. I'm no vet, but I do know these symptoms are also those of rodentcide ingestion.

Thank you Lady Hawk. I so appreciate all the work and videos you have done over the many years. This has been just beyond heartbreaking for all of us that so love this site and especially the eagles and the eaglets. I dont think my heart could break any more than is has in the last two days and seeing precious little E25 fall out of the nest. These 2 eaglets were so close and that is also what is so sad. E25 was with E24 until the end. That was so hard and sweet and the same time. My prayers now are for M15 and F23 that they will not fall ill and CROW will find out what happened and that it will not be bird flu because we could lose M 15 and F23. I dont think I could handle that at all, Many prayers for M15 and F23, you and all the others that work so hard at this nest to keep us informed and the Pritchards for the cameras. God Bless ALL !!!

I have been watching since birth and am very heart broken. What a great loss. I am worried about the parents. f23 has been putting her foot forward while on the branch often and I haven't seen her do this in the past. e24 and e25 are now buddies together again in Heaven . Forever.
