Back in 1962 when my father, my brother and I all got our novice ham radio licenses, this would have been the receiver we would have used. It was prominently featured in the Lafayette radio catalog. We saved our money and were about to buy this kit, when my father got a job at Hallicrafters. One of the company benefits they had for hams working there was a very generous 40% discount on any Hallicrafters radio then manufactured. So instead we bought a Hallicrafters SX-111 for our ham shack, and later, after we got our general class licenses, an HT-32B transmitter. Those were great days! I never got the Lafayette receiver, but as you show here, it was a really well engineered, fine receiver. If I ever find one for sale at a reasonable price, I might add one to my collection of boat anchor radio gear.

I really enjoy your videos . i wished i knew all that you do about old S.W.s . I love the older radios especially the Heath kit GC1A Mohican . I had one in the late 1980s and am looking for another one . I know it is a solid state but i still look all the time for one . thanks for your videos . 73

I think that the Lafayette HE-10 is a much prettier and safer looking rig than the Hallicrafters S-38 series. I just started looking for one on eBay recently, myself. I have a Lafayette HE-40 here that I have been using for parts to rebuild a Hallicrafters S-120. It is almost identical to the S-120, except that it has an S-Meter. The S- Meter adjustment is inconveniently located on the back panel. The radio actually worked before the power cord disintegrated, and I broke the dial string trying to get the pointer back on. Here is a link to part one of my recapping video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX7Ikqp3p8x1ZpI

Would someone explain the inputs on the rear of the chassis labeled (from outside to inside) A1….A2….E. A1 and A2 has a bar so they can be jointed. I lost my instructions in 1959. I use E as a ground and A1 and A2 with the bar joining them hooked to a 100’ antenna at an elevation of about 18’ in a wide open area. Very few homes or factories. It’s in one of the higher areas of the state at 660’ (Norther Michigan, 2 miles from the shore of Lake Michigan). I suppose I could due “guess and test” to figure this out but would rather hear it from somebody that knows. Thanks. Greg in Central Lake

I have an HT 200 that I recaped and listen to regularly. I can't get the BFO to work I tried twisting my own gimmick and I also tried using a capacitor . All my tubes tested good on a triplet 3444 and I tried a second set of tubes with no difference. Other than that the unit works fine. I've tried to adjust the BFO coil but it does. nothing. Do you have any suggestions?
