Lagavulin 16 is what got my into scotch. It is truly amazing. It definitely isn't for everyone though.

My pick among those three: Laphroaig QC Lagavuling 16 Bowmore 15

believe all of those have colour added. not sure about the laphroaig but i know the bowmore and lagavulin are coloured. but the bowmore is my favourite of these three.
@JustinBarylski5 жыл бұрын
I haven't had the Bowmore yet, but the Lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig QC are both amazing. I find the Lagavulin sweet and savoury, almost like sweet smoked barbecued meat, while the Laphroaig is more Oaky and briney. Ive also picked up a little bit of buttered popcorn on the nose of the quarter cask which was very interesting.
@Scotch4Dummies5 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with you at all. They're all good!
@keithpetersen5608 жыл бұрын
I have tried the Lagavulin 16 and I got a medicinal nose and taste I did not like. The Bowmore 15 is on my list to try and never had a Laphroaig. I know there are only 8 distilleries from Islay as of now, but still so many scotches to try. If you have not tried Ardbeg Uigeadail, look it up. A peat scotch finished in sherry which blew me away and cost me only $60... So good I picked up 2 bottles. Good video.
@Scotch4Dummies8 жыл бұрын
+Keith Petersen Hmmm. the Lag16 is one of our favorites! But, glad you tried it. We smashed a bottle of Uigeadail so fast we didn't get a review on it...LOL, gonna need to get another, although the Dark Cove is probably before it on the list!
@keithpetersen5608 жыл бұрын
+Scotch 4 Dummies I know the Lag 16 is a very popular choice of scotch for many. I must admit, it was my first Islay scotch that I tried about 10 years ago and knew nothing about scotch. So you can imagine my response when I first nosed and tasted it. Although the more I drank it, the better it did taste. I will have to go back and revisit that bottle. Costco has that one on sale all the time in the $50 range. Well if you smashed the Uigeadail so fast, you must of liked it. The Dark Cove might be a hard find and over $200....
@Scotch4Dummies8 жыл бұрын
+Keith Petersen Costco has Lag16 in the $50 range? That's a steal as it's up between $109-$119 in the liquor stores around here! Yes, we're planning on another bottle of Uig, but we may have a lead on the Dark Cove first.... ;-)
@keithpetersen5608 жыл бұрын
+Scotch 4 Dummies Ya, Costco in Danville Ca. has Lagavulin 16 & Oban 14 on sale all the time in the $50-60 range. Don't know why as those 2 scotches are big hitters. The distilleries must be able to produce alot of it. As far as Ardbeg Dark Cove, look up consumers responses regarding Ardbeg past special releases. The Dark Cove Committee was released this year and got good reviews, but being over $100 it is a NAS scotch. They are also releasing the Ardbeg Night on May 28, abv 46-47 and hopefully under the $100 range. It might even become part of the current 3 bottle Ardbeg core range? Let me know what you think of the Dark Cove if you purchase it.
@franklampard63168 жыл бұрын
Good review guys. For me, I would have included Ardbeg 10 year instead of the Bowmore. Yes, the Bowmore is nice, but I think it's a different type of Islay whisky that isn t in the same grouping as the others you selected.
@Scotch4Dummies8 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with that, other than we didn't have Ardbeg 10 on the bar to include... Guess we'll have to add or to the list ☺
@Scotch4Dummies8 жыл бұрын
Ardbeg would have gone together with the other 2 probably better. We kind of wanted to see how the Bowmore compared being a different style from the same island. It still shows character just a different kind.

Another great video guys. Laga 16 and laphroaig QC are whiskies that will always have a place in my cupboard, but if I never stayed in Scotland I'm not sure I would I get them as they are pretty affordable bottles here (laga £38 and QC £25) Import and export taxes on spirits are outrageous in some cases but pretty much non existent in others!! P.S recommend the lagavulin 8 year old 👌🏻

Hmmmm, the 8 huh? Well, we've scored a bottle of the DE for father's day, so that is in the line up soon! ;-)

You guys should do your top pick from each region. Would be helpful for beginners looking for a place to start. Great vidoes
@Scotch4Dummies8 жыл бұрын
Working on it, although it's a bit tougher these days as distilleries are producing scotch outside the norm of their region more than ever now. As cool as that is, it does make it a bit more tricky and potentially costly for uninformed scotch drinkers to purchase something they flat out don't like!

Great review guys! I somehow overlooked this one. I still haven't tried any of the Bowmore Darkest. It's on my list, but it's getting just as pricey as Lagavulan 16, so I keep spending that money on the Lagavulan. Laphroaig 10 is also a regular one for me since it's relatively cheap. I've got a bottle of the Laphroaig QC, but just haven't gotten around to opening it yet. The Broncos were my pick too...lifelong Manning family fan.

I think out of all the whisky reviewers out there, you guys are the best. You are sincere and funny and in fact, I think you should take over Whisky review in a big way. We only have pompous boring people like Ralphy, people like Horst Leuning who does not listen to anyone and has a one-track way of doing things, and will never open a larger bottle and tries to open 50 ml smaller samples which he gets free, then there is this mess of a guy who is either drunk or tired all the time (foodquig) and goes all over the place and mumbles crap all the time, should I go on.................Of course, whisky in the 6 is great. And "Topwhiskies" also is wonderful!

@jashoo85974 жыл бұрын
torn between the laphroaig and bowmore. got the bowmore because of the lighter peat (my first peaty scotch). realised there is more sherry than peat. maybe next time go for laphroaig to learn to identify the peat.

Dang, accidentally deleted my long comment! "Delete" too close to the "edit" button. Will re-write another time. So very quickly: Again great energy among you chaps and three quality malts, each with their own strengths! Loved the super bowl, insane fumbles back & forth, terrific defense play and nice win for the Broncos! Panthers certainly did not use many of their chances. Newton's got much too digest, that's for sure. ;-) Btw., I'd love to recommend malts to you, does your preferred liquor store have a website?

The QC seems more mellow than the 10 year. The 10 is good but still has some rough edges to it that extra aging rounds out. I think the QC is a bit softer because of the small cask finish that gives it more oak nuances. Both are worth drinking.
