I was looking at the V for my next, but this has my attention now, mostly because of build quality and reputation.

Awesome review man as always, really considering this as my first grinder. Is this a good all rounder grinder for first time usages ? I am drinking mostly espressos, would make both black and milky drinks. I also don't want too much acidity in my coffee for black, i like those texture, body, sweet notes in the coffee.

Is this the same dosing cup that goes with the Option-O O1 flat burr grinder? Currently using the P100 (but eventually planning to upgrade to the O1 once it goes through a couple revs to improve noise and whatever) and love it but also looking for a style-compatible end game conical to push my key off the shelf. Ultimately I want end game conical and flat burr grinders they look like they belong together and with entirely compatible workflows on the bar. You mention this is entry level but do they have a end-game conical similar to this? This does seem a little slow and loud for espresso. I think the 65mm you elude to is what i'm looking for.

Thank you for the great review! I have a few questions: 1. What is the typical humidity where you are? I'm in a very dry area and am curious if I might be able to get away w/o RDT (I never have before). 2. Does the catch cup center perfectly? Is there a risk of it scratching the base or is there some padding? If you wanted to grind directly into a portafilter, how might you go about doing it? 3. Do you know anything about the design/availability of the 64/65mm version? It looks like the entire grind chamber would have to be different to accommodate a significantly larger burr set. Thanks again for your awesome reviews! I love your channel.

Great review, I was looking forward to this one! It feels as though they were aiming to fix the flaws of the mini (power brick, weak motor) and it seems they have knocked it out of the park while adding a few more features. 👌Bit of a shame about the duty cycle, but I can't imagine many people will come anywhere near to grinding that amount of time in one session.

Well I think it should be considered that in this case, and some others, the info on price isn’t firmed up and often only ranges are provided. And as someone who spends weeks, or in some cases months working on reviews my pet peeve is mentioning the price right off and then just having angry comments after watching 1/4 of the video as if I have any control of that, and I haven’t even gotten to the point where a price can be even be justified or nullified.

Just based on the sound picked up by your mic, I don't love the sound of the motor on this one. It's got a bit too much of a high-pitched whine. I have the Niche Zero and its low-pitched rumble, though fairly loud, is at least inoffensive to my ears. I think this is going to be heavily influenced by personal tastes though. Some people are going to be much more annoyed by high-pitched sounds than others. It does seem like this one may offer a bit more clarity and better filter brews than the Niche but perhaps not enough to justify a "cross-grade." For folks who already own a legacy conical it still seems like the path is to upgrade to a higher-end flat

Thanks for this! One thing I couldn't quite be sure of from the review is if it's possible to go from espresso to pour-over grind settings in a single rotation of the dial or if it's necessary to go past the zero point one or more times. I often switch brew methods and expect I'd find having to use multiple rotations tedious since it'd be hard to know where the grinder was set without going back to the zero point and starting again.
@ToddParker
@ToddParker Ай бұрын
If it is like the Lagom Mini, which I own, I can confirm that Option-O says the filter range on this Mini is 1.2-1.5 - 10 total dots, so 1.2 would be 1 revolution and then to the second dot and so on. They also say espress0 is .5 or less. The french press they say is 2.0-2.5. This is all based on their Moonshine burr, which I have and seems to be the same Burr in the Casa. So, if you are going from espresso to french press you are multiple revolutions away. If you are going from filter to espresso, depending on how coarse your filter grind is, you may be within 1 revolution. The only caveat is the new Moonshine burr design...knowing Option-O has different recommendations on the mini between their Obsydian and Moonshine burr sets, their recommendations on the CASA may be different than what I just detailed.

The fact that you mentioned "looks" several times in your review underscores a point with most coffee grinders. There aren't many that look good. In fact, my favorite coffee grinder, the Zero Z1 has an odd, almost cheap looking stand. I think my Kafatek MC4 looks great though there are other issues. Weber grinders look great too but they have their issues. The Niche Zero looks like a wilted eggplant. Frankly, there aren't any coffee grinders that I know of that are both ergonomic and design masterpieces.
@_rtj

What are some of the kafetek issues you've run into?
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 Ай бұрын
@@_rtj The burrs like to travel, which they were designed to do, but the red arrow sticker then travels too. Right now, the sticker on my grinder is way off any number setting, below -0. The fix is to get another sticker. For the price, why stickers? Also, perhaps more importantly, there is no way to clean the inside of the Kafatek. The RPMs are slow too, which also is part of design, to prevent overheating the beans, but grinding still requires patience.
