Population decline is never a good sign for a small town.

I saw my house haha. I think the reason a lot of people are leaving is because there’s no source of entertainment. The only thing we had from 2010-2020 was a bowling alley and that got bought out by people for antiques so now it’s just sitting there surrounded by junk and the kids & families have nothing to go do. I definitely have noticed a lot of growth in La Grange since 2020 so I think we’re starting to get somewhere

I live near LaGrange and go there a few times a week and I don't see their minor population decrease as a continuation of a fall. LaGrange has a good amount of retirees so the pandemic affected quite a few of them. They're expanding in LaGrange and stayed solid through the pandemic. They lost a bunch of small businesses just like everyone has in the country but both the Walmart and HEB remodeled and expanded during the pandemic, while new businesses have come back to fill the void. They even built a new 4 lane bridge to accommodate the population increasing. LaGrange has all the modern conveniences of larger cities but with a lot of parks and is still a very diverse small town. A lot of their police force has gone down to help the border crisis but crime rates haven't risen in the city and the bulk of the cases are from people driving through on highway 71 which connects Austin to Houston, so crimes like sex and drug trafficking are the main workload for the legal system. I live in the same county and sat on the last 2 years worth of cases in Fayette County and their towns LaGrange, West Point and Plum hardly had any cases involving their residents.

I moved here about 3 months ago and love it. I am retired and appreciate the small town vibe and fewer people. After living in Houston for many many decades, I'm like totally peopled out. I needed room to breathe. This little town is just what I needed. There are a few quaint little places to eat and you can't go wrong when you've got your HEB and your Walmart in town.😅 If people are leaving, I would imagine it's the young kids who've grown up and need more excitement in their lives because there isn't much to do in La Grange if you're young. I think I've seen maybe two bars, and no movie theater that I'm aware of anyway so yeah, it's pretty quiet but it's just my speed where I'm at in life now. Oh, and everyone is so friendly! It's just nice to get out and not have to fight the crowds of people, and to drive down a road and be only one of maybe two cars. It's a breath of fresh air!

I'm 26 years old. 30 minute drive to Bastrop, opposite direction of this video has a theater called Film Alley Bastrop. Hope this helps you in your cinematic endeavors. It also serves as a bowling alley with billiard section as well.
