Lahaina has been destroyed by a catastrophic fire that burned down the entire town. A reliable way to help with donations is here: www.hawaiicommunityfoundation...
This is the worst natural disaster in the history of Hawaii. We present images of Lahaina before the fire as a memorial tribute to this wonderful place, and with hopes it will be rebuilt in the near future.

As a resident of Hawaii who has enjoyed many visits to Lahaina, our most beautiful town, I am devastated by this loss, as are all people of the world, a colossal tragedy.
We can only pray for the survivors and hope Lahaina will be rebuilt as it was, in the near future.

I live in Maui. Would go to Lahaina twice a week to sell my art. Took many visiting friends and family there to show them around. Would meet up with friends and customers for lunch or dinner. Go to the annual Halloween Party. This tragedy feels like a huge part of my history has been wiped out. Hard to describe my feelings. It’s not just sad. It’s like someone died suddenly that I never got a chance to say goodbye to, only to realize just how much they actually meant to me.

It's all gone. My wife's town she grew up in, the town I learned to love and became my home. Our children we were raising here to be the next generation to take over and then one day pass on their own beautiful childhood memories to their own children. Thank you for this video. We will rebuild Lahaina.

While planning a trip to Maui, I looked through my daddy's cruise album from the USS Indianapolis from WWII. There were many pictures from Lahaina. I dug really deep and found that Lahaina alternated as the home of the US Naval fleet before the war. In fact, the Japanese considered bombing Lahaina instead of Pearl Harbor. The Naval fleet moored there because of the calm waters that were named Lahaina Roads. Last November, I walked in his footsteps all over the town. It was very emotional for me. I found the old wharf where sailors were transported to the town from the the big ships. The wharf has decayed now, but parts of it still remain. Lahaina does have a lot of history that most people don't know about. My heart is broken for all the ones who have lost everything.

We lived in Lahaina in 1965 and it was lovely and totally unspoiled before the tourists discovered it. It was truly a paradise with very few stores, not many cars, no stop lights, etc. - just local people and us haoles. I have pictures of that Lahaina and a book I bought more recently at the Old Court House where we got our mail back in the day. The book shows the store fronts, etc. of the Lahaina I knew -so different than what's shown in this video! Praying for the beautiful people of Lahaina.

I hope the Banyan tree survives….it would make such a symbol of hope for the people if it can grow green again. Prayers of support and for the kind of Lahaina the people want for themselves when they are ready to rebuild. But first, time must be given to mourn the loss….this video is a sweet reminder, thank you.

We went scuba diving from a boat that took us out as a group. So many wonderful memories. We all have a hard time understanding what happened. I was just there, 2 months to the dates of the fires and captured drone footage of Lahaina with the ocean in the background. I also captured footage of the mountains, just north of Lahaina! And I shopped in Lahaina, more specifically at a knife shop, where I picked up a knife for my dad. The shop owner and I had a pleasant conversation for nearly 15 minutes and she even recommended a golf course, Pukalani, which I played the following day. Congratulations guys, nice camera work. My best memory of Lahaina was wandering down the back alleys to see what was there. I stumbled upon several 200 year old whaler's huts hidden away out of sight. Not a tourist to be seen, just me. Then there was the day I had to do laundry at a little place on the wrong side of the tracks - literally. You had to cross over an old sugar cane railroad to get to it. While waiting I stepped into a fine cultural exchange establishment called the Sly Mongoose. Not a tourist to be seen, just me and a gang of Samoan bikers. Different.

Such a lovely peaceful clean looking town. No trash on the sidewalks and streets, no bums hanging around, no panhandlers. Just heartbreaking this place with so much history and so many people giving it much loving care for many years is now lost. So tragic for the residents who did so much for their town and now they've lost it all.

I was 3 years old when my dad was stationed on Oahu. I don't know if we ever visited Maui and probably never saw Lahaina, but we lived on Oahu for 3-3.5 years before being stationed back to the mainland. So, the earliest memories of my life are of Hawai'i and life there. My sister was born at Tripler Army Medical Center back in 1960, but unfortunately, she has no memory of Hawai'i. There is a place in my heart and mind that has always thought of Hawai'i as the home I always wanted to go back to. Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Lahaina, Dennis. It was an amazingly beautiful town. All the history there is something I would have loved to lay back and soak in. The idea that it's all gone breaks my heart so deeply. The people have lost so much. So many people have been lost. The idea that it all could have been avoided is so devastating. My hope is that the People of Maui and Lahaina will be able to find a way to rebuild and make the town stronger than ever. I believe that the People have the Spirit and will prevail. I'm so sorry for what you all have lost, but the town and the People will rise up and this horror will become but a note in the long, beautiful history of Lahaina.

I've never been to Maui. The town looks so beautiful and historical. We are all so heartbroken about what has happened. Praying for you all. I really hope that the community sticks together and rebuilds Lahaina! The corruption in the government seems to have played a very evil plot in all this. Praying you stand strong and tell FEMA to take a hike. Sorry for your loss.

Mahalo for sharing. I cried seeing the town. Was there last year and years before with our kids when they were young. I remember in the hotel on the waterfront across the street from the banyan tree there was a parrot. I wonder if he was saved.

I can barely watch this. When I was there in 2017 all I could think was how God must have had a glorious time creating such a paradise. The only thing that competes with Mauis beauty is the it’s people. I remember sitting at the cafe in awe at how genuinely caring and nice the Maui residents were. Everything about it was beautiful and unique and they shared it with me. Now to see the devastation to the place and people just seems so unfair to a paradise that only gave its best. My heart is broken.

I'm Canadian: 9 Hawaiian vacations, 7 Honolulu Marathons and 2 weeks one year in February on Maui. The Kaanapali Beach Resort was quiet so drove into Lahaina every day. Fond memories on the Pioneer Inn and the memorabilia on the walls, when Lahaina was a whaling post. FYI, it was built by a Canadian in 1901. Beers at a bar on front street over looking the ocean and seeing the odd whale. Hawaiians are strong and will rebuild Lahaina but the 93 lives lost to date can never be replaced. Aloha

We were there in 2015, and I saw many places we visited together. My husband is now passed away, and it breaks my heart that "our" place will never be there in its historic form ever again. This video is a precious jewel that must be preserved for the history of Lahaina, when those 100 years from now want to see the Lahaina that was. 😢

Prayers and blessings from Huntington Beach, California, and the whole mainland of the United States. Good memories of Maui and all the Islands. May the God of Creation lift each and everyone up that was devastated by the destruction of the fires. May the hole in your heart and losses be filled with the joy of the Lord fulfilled. May the hand of the God of Creation pour his wealth, health, strength, and joy and Angels comfort you as you move forward into the unknown, knowing that others are with you seeking the same answers to hardship questions that may never be addressed, but know you are loved by fellow Americans who also have gone through some gauntlet tests. Perfect love casts out all fear, so walk in perfect love. The footsteps of the master shepherd walks lightly on the sand, his touch heals the heart of the broken man or woman. Trust in the Devine plan. Help is on its way, the American people will have their say, you will not be pushed aside or pushed away. We on the mainland have heard you loud and clear, something is off, something is afoot, we are watching, are watchfull for those we hold dear. The Remnant August 18th 2023

It is so sad what happened to the town. I bet it will start rebuilding very soon since it was such a destination when visiting Maui. This whole incident just goes to show how fragile life and our surrounding are, which we normally take for granted. Lahaina will be back and probably better!
