Definitely option 1 for me... You need light and pale tones to allow the light to settle.

Brazil is amazing. One boat is being built without so much as a blueprint, and just down the road, CNC built interior.

Whichever wood you choose will be best. I congratulate your frugality with your shoes. I did that for many years and am no worse for having done so. Great progress guys.

Oak wood is nice ! Here in the Netherlands we have Skylt natural. This is ultramatt 2 component polyuhretan finish wich keeps the oak on its most natural look. At the moment our 42 feet steel motorboat is being build and we're going to build the interior our selfs. Love to see your project knowing in about 8 months we can start on our project.

I would think about bracing the axles on the trailer in case the tires lose pressure. She is looking good & I too repair my shoe's.

With all the systems and weight of these things. Then its placement that works in a limited space. Then its access. I would be pulling out my hair. Wait lucky me haircuts I pay for finders fees, not the cutting. Amazing how you both still have it all together. It’s going to turn out beautiful. Think the richness of last would not feel ikea as much.

Why did you put thin foil insulation panels against the hull instead of spray foam? How did you determine what was level inside the boat not knowing the new waterline based on the modifications to the hull and the added weight and extinctions?

Tbh I think the bed base should have been raised, giving you extra bed space and under bed storage. Yes, I know there was a hatch, but that could've been accessed underneath the bed, or a lift up section by the foot of the bed to access that front hatch.

I want to say this, girl you are a really pretty girl and it is a pleasure to watch and listen to you. As far as a steel boat, I have issues with steel. I have lived most of my life in wet climate. And for many years the counties and cities used clam and oyster shell for roads. Those materials are mostly salt and calcium. A new car for decades would not last very long because of rust. The salt just ate them up. And equipment rust very bad here, it gets rained on so much that paint comes off and rust starts in a short period of time. So I don’t think steel is a good choice. Any where you look fiberglass out last steel hulls by a long shot. They both have there issues yes, but still boats will not last unless you take meticulous care of it. Without very good care it will rot away in less than 20 years. Fiberglass leaving it in the water too long can cause damage but not severe damage, that takes many years. Plus it is lighter and goes thru the water better. Of course you hit something it can crack, but steel can split and bend, one scratch can cause you to need to haul out. Myself I wouldn’t have a steel boat ! Just my opinion but they are very expensive to maintain. You cost for maintaining will be greater for sure. But each their own and good luck. These reasons is why most boat manufactures use fiber glass plus it is cheaper. Oh one other thing I have seen many fiberglass boats 50 years old or 30 to 50. Still floating, of course they were well maintained, but I have seen very few steel that old. Plus when you start sailing you may find them abandoned and almost totally rusted away. Because of cost to rescue and rebuild. They are some out there most of them are big freighters Tho ! I am going to keep watching so I can see your pretty face and listen to you telling us how it is going. If I can join you patron page I will. And take a break when you guys need one.

Problem with the modern wood is that it is flat looking as in it doesn't have that shiny topcoat that looks great in a boat and it looks cheap
@lahakai
@lahakai Жыл бұрын
That's definitely an ascetic choice that people can make these days, not having a glossy finish. We are leaning toward the high-gloss finish in this boat since we feel it will brighten up the wood and also create greater protection. We light matte finishes more for residential or larger areas. That process will come later, right now the wood is raw so stay tuned!

You do remember that you are going to be living on a boat right? Sand, grease, lots of other things that will absolutely ruin your white, off white, gray, and light gray colors. There is a reason why the old boats had interiors made from darker colors. Just my opinion. Good luck.

My question is..... you are obviously pouring alot of time, effort and money into Lahakai, what happens when a year after completion you end up starting a family and will obviously need more room. Why not rebuild something that's 40 foot or 45 with a aft cabin?
@lahakai

Good question! We wanted to start smaller project boat since it was easier and cheaper to learn. As you know how that story unfolded, not everything goes as you plan 😅
