Imagine how reliable old Honda designs are that even chinese copies are somewhat reliable as well.

The reality about how Lifan got the license to build the CG series and their horizontal cylinder bikes is much different. First you have to understand that Lifan was a Hong Kong based company when they became a Honda licensed product builder and wasn't communist Chinese, instead a British protectorate. The Guardian did an interview with the CEO of Lifan. So when Lifan got the tooling from Honda to build their home market bikes, the tooling was almost complete scrap metal, they had to overhaul and rebuild much of the injection molds and tooling to ISO 9001 standards on their own dime. So their motorcycles and engines are actually better made than the original 1980's Honda Asian market products. With care and routine maintenance this Hawk 250 should last nearly 100K. They are designed to put in a long service hours in 3rd world countries, that's why they're a very simple, single cam lobe, pushrod engine that can rev to a 8.5k redline. Also a fairly wide ratio transmission 5 speed, and an engine that thrives on pulling from low RPMs. This is also the engine in the shorter non counterbalanced version that is nearly a drop in fit for most of the old XL and XR small, vertical cylindered Hondas of the late 1970's and early 1980s.

I love mine, I removed all bolts and applied lock tight then re-installed this saved me a lot of trouble. I also put a Honda carb I bought off Facebook with little modification and it runs great

I bought a lifan kpm 200 after riding motorized bikes for years. I have 2000 miles on the kpm200, and it's been flawless so far. Its liquid cooled has a real changable oil filter, a 6-speed trans and fuel injection. Chinese bikes are getting nicer every year

thx for taking the bullet, I opted for an old, but low mileage yamaha 125 scooter as a commuter as to not gamble on a possibility a chinese bike will not be an upgrade in reliability over the motorized bicycle.

I bought a 1989 CB450 DX (similar to the US CB450SC, minus the oil cooler, the DX has an oil radiator) - And man it's funny how the motorized bike shaped me as a rider. Like you, I check every single freaking thing all the time. Trust is building but man does it take a while.

You have some interesting add-on's -I like the automatic chain luber, haven't seen on of those before. One of the first bolt-on's I ordered for my '23 DLX was a cargo rack that bolts right onto the rear fender behind the seat. Works very well -you can attach virtually anything to it from there. I added a Begikk color coded cargo bag that fits the carrier perfectly and enables me to take quite a few things along on rides and even do a bit of shopping. I too have found the counter balanced motor to be the bee's knee's for this platform as far as anti-vibration. Easily the most worthwhile upgrade besides EFI that comes with the DLX package. Good update on you X otherwise -I've no doubt it'll go right past 10K without issue as long as you maintain it as you have clearly been. As long as that oil cooler doesn't spring a massive leak🤔

I WAS WORRIED FOR A MINUTE...!!!! GLAD TO SEE A VIDEO FROM YOU... Any chance of making anymore motorized bicycle videos again...!!!!
@wayne78622 ай бұрын
Great video, which seems to say, "Once you get the bike dialed in, its a great bike." I'd tell anyone to allow six months to overcome all the bike's deficiencies. I replaced the "thick wires" coming from the battery to the solenoid, and the solenoid to the starter, with actual cables; I found a company (Venhill) that made custom length throttle cables to replace my factory cable, which was 3/4 of an inch too long...the list goes on. Congrats on 5,000 miles!

If you ride that bike out of state, go to Magic Springs in Hot Springs, Arkansas. You can use the water attractions there to stay cool during the hot part of the day, and ride Highway 7 up to Russellville or farther if you feel like doing it.

Arkansas is what I have been planning, the Highway 1 scenic view looks tempting. Thanks for the suggestions!

Are you ever gunna get back to gas powered motorized bicycles?

For mirrors I have Amazon Double Take knockoffs. They work great. 1/3 the price as OEM.

If the oil plug has no magnet, add a strong one to it......Also do these bikes use any oil filter ? If no oil filter & no magnet on the drain plug....You really should add one.
@LAHover2 ай бұрын
Does have a magnetic drain plug. Also uses a centrifugal oil filter that apparently gets cleaned out when you service the clutch plates... That one is new to me, should be interesting to check out when the time comes.

This engine was put together by Honda when their overhead cam bikes started failing in the third world through neglect. They went to a pushrod motor instead for long term life. It's called the CG-250 on a Honda. It was built to take abuse. The engine in the Lifan KPX 250, which is overhead cam, is the next step but costs more. DADBODBIKERS are running the wheels off those successfully.

Will the tire pressure monitor work on bicycles?
@LAHover2 ай бұрын
Yes, and had I thought about it years ago I would have been putting them on my gas and electric motorized bikes. Most are water proof and rechargeable, some are even solar powered.
@robschlotterbeck25662 ай бұрын
@@LAHover I like the one you have. I will go on two or three hour rides but only go a few miles from home. If I start losing pressure it would be nice to know before it becomes a real problem. I do carry a small pump and a patch kit but let’s face it, it’s nicer to do repairs at home. I will order one tomorrow.
