Nutan.. as singer
All lovers of Hindi films are familiar with Nutan's career as an actress. Not many know that She had a good singing voice and had apparently also taken some training in singing. She has also written a few songs as well!
In 1950, her mother Shobhna Samarth had introduced Nutan in Hamari Beti(1950) which Shobhna not only produced but also directed. In this movie, Nutan not only debuted as an actress but also sang a solo, Tujhe Kaisa Dulha Bhaaye Ri Baanki Dulhaniya for composer Snehal Bhatkar which is extremely rare. Enjoy this song's audio thanks to Girdharilal Vishwakarma ji, the Jodhpur based record collector.
In the 1950s, thus her career started and She acted in many hit movies. It appeared that singing had taken a backseat but it was again Shobhna Samarth who showcased the singer in her like never before. Here again, the composer was Snehal Bhatkar while songs had been written by lyricist S Ratan (Ratan Sharma). This movie was also produced-directed by her mother Shobhna, who also incidentally introduced her younger sister Tanuja to hindi films with this movie.
Music lovers were treated to as many as six songs by Nutan in this movie. Unfortunately the movie doesn't seem to be available like Hamari Beti but the audios have become available.
The most commonly available song from the movie is Lehron Pe Lehar Ulfat Hai Jawan sung by her with Hemant Kumar (who also sang a solo tandem of it for the movie too!):-

Nutan,like many Marathis, had a lovely, melodious voice. What awesome talent. One of our greatest actresses ever. Love this lilting number. Though I am not personally a great fan of Hemant Kumar ji, ( crazy fan of Rafi/ Talat/ Mukesh) I have no hesitation in saying that there are some songs like Jane who kaise, Hai apna dil toh aware, Na tum Jane jano and the one above ,which are made just for him, the man with the baritone voice. Though not an original composition ( adapted from a Dean Martin classic) there is a nice blend of the West and the East which is sure to please the listeners. Special thanks for the presentation. Ratan i.e. Ratanbai Shilotri a veteran Singer of 1930s and also actress of New Theatre Calcutta film Yahudi Ki Ladki 1933 with K.L.Sahgal and Kumar . She was mother of veteran actress Shobhana Samarth, a face of SITA in films of 1930-40s.

Veteran Nutan ji was a trained actress who had taken training in acting in Switzerland and trained in classical singing too from Ustad Amir Khan. Bharat Ratna veteran singer Lata ji once gave complement to her by saying that had there been any other actress in film Seema I could not have sung the beautiful classical number " Manmohna bade jhoothe" as this song was filmed first on Nutan and lata ji had recorded later seeing her singing acting and lips and face movements. She said when she sang the song her lips and veins of neck exactly moved the way as Nutan's veins of neck had moved . What a great complements from a veteran singer to this veteran actress Nutan ji.
