It is crazy to think isn't it. So many people I know are so addicted to either TikTok or Instagram reels. To the point where they genuinely cannot watch films, series, or enjoy old or create new hobbies. There are so many people stuck in a quick dopamine feedback loop, and god knows how many people are out there, who wake up, go to work or university, do their work, and get home and scroll for hours... we need to start pushing people to be creative and thinking again, rather than dumping out content...
@EliTasrev2 жыл бұрын
Well if this many people are doing it, it means we should research why we do it, what it does for us and why we need it. Then we should establish good motivations to pursue alternatives that are less damaging. Most people know it's bad, and most people don't even feel fulfilled because of it. We should treat it as it is, an addiction. A large problem as well is algorithms designed to induce this addiction, purely to make more money off people. These companies should be limited, controlled to a certain extent and there should be more ethical online platform alternatives (that won't be bought by Facebook after success). I think a lot of people would be on board with ethically conscious social media, as their addiction probably interferes with their daily lives as well. Quitting all together is often too much of a jump, and not a good alternative either since people do want to stay entertained and connected, but we should do so more consciously. Not just for us, but for the generations to come.

20 years ago there where documentaries about gaming addiction and their screentime was like 5 hours a day and it was considered as way too much :D Now young people casually say 8 hours :D I always thought this would get out of hand eventually and would be bad for society. Mine is like 12 hours a day but I listen to KZbin if I can’t sleep, which is often. It breaks down like 7 hours of KZbin, 1.5 hour on Duolingo (some of the awake KZbin time is language related too), 1 hour using a clock app when I need a visible clock on screen (atomic clock app), about an hour of Reddit, 30 minutes email and the rest on general safari use and a phone game I play. It’s really interesting seeing usage my age demographics. Like I can’t stand tiktok and the KZbin videos I like are generally very long documentary style since I can listen while I’m doing something else, or trying to sleep. Needing to constantly swipe through 30 second videos sounds like absolute pain to me, and if I want bite size content I can use Reddit but also search for very specifically what I want by subreddit instead of some algorithm force feeding me. Very cool video idea you have here and interesting comments!

Screen time only refers to the amount of time you actually have the phone unlocked and open/scrolling. If you have a podcast playing in the background it doesn't count that. My screentime averages around 10 hours a day BUT that includes working, GPS, listening to motivational or self-improvement videos and other productive things that are actually healthy. If my iPhone didn't do everything it does, I'd be using it less but I'd be using a camera, a radio or stereo, a typewriter, a calculator and a lot of other devices. THAT BEING SAID, I'm under no illusions about what's actually healthy. I think a maximum of 45 minutes a day is healthy and even that is being very generous. We aren't meant to be staring at screens. The ideal goal is 15 minutes at most per day but that's nearly impossible.
