Hi Luke, I've been following you since 2009, and I saw you live for the first time in Zoo Club (Spain) in 2011. I was seeing your technique evolution through the years with the new technologies coming out every year and you were an inspiration not only as a dj also as a tech person interested in the last technology applied to music. It is so cool to see you doing an incredible mix with this new gear but in my opinion what was always attractive to me was your way of doing dj tricks, your creativity at the max level and how visual you did it, seeing you with 3 decks up, putting a song with some scratching, how you combine in a unique way the color fx with fx scratching an acapella while looping in an impossible way. That was so dope to see and I miss it nowadays. In general how your mix looks in our eyes, not only what you can do technically also how we see it, how you move your hands, how you touch the buttons, the jogwheel. Your style was unique. And I think the phone is the future but plugged in a more beautiful and attractive setup/layout that maybe some DJ company has to realize to incorporate stems and a lot of features into the cdjs or mixer instead of selling the same piece of plastic with just 2 new functions in 2023. The picture of a DJ with a mixer and decks is 1000x better than this setup (visually) even if the music output is cool, sometimes we like to watch the dj doing things in a proper setup. Let's put what we miss in that setup. I don't mean to offend or anything, I just love your yearmixes and I've realized this over the years. Regards from a big fan __|mm|__

Thank you for your comment Marta, I really appreciate this. I think you almost understand it! But in the future, how important will the hardware be? This is hard to imagine. The picture of a DJ with vinyl and a big box of records, was the image that people wanted to see when I switched to CDJs in 2003. When they saw me DJing with only CDs, people were shocked! They told me: "This is not real DJing!". Today, we experience the same. And it's funny right, people don't say that to Techno DJs on a Traktor setup. But in CDJ land, we are stuck with the image of a way too expensive hardware set that isn't from this time. I hope this explains a little bit. What I would love for you to do is to listen to this mix in audio and try to hear what I'm doing, because I'm doing a lot. This is the same DJ you saw, but next level. Don't get stuck in the past, open your mind, and thank you again for your comment!

Good on you Luke for pushing the envelope and showing people really can DJ on anything these days. Although personally I would prefer to watch you on a full CDJ setup so we can hear all your skills in action with more complex and nuanced transitions. Impressive job though on such a tiny setup.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I've never been much for nuanced transitions, I personally think they are really boring. In my mind, ANYONE can do those. It gets interesting when you challenge yourself a little bit. Don't be fooled, there's plenty of techniques, and saves in this mix and the skills are still all there.

For those saying they want to see Luke on CDJs, I get it but this equipment is WAY more accessible for beginner DJs who can't invest that kind of money up front to DJ and learn the craft or even decide if they really love DJing. This can make DJing seem more realistic to more beginner DJs and hopefully inspire more people to get involved in dance music.

This is great, the industry standard equipment is a fortune (Pioneer CDJs and mixer). You don't need it, a midi controller and software (or phone app) gives you the same functionality and more! Well done LL.

Yeah those aren't needed anymore! And interestingly enough I don't know the tracks that good either. It has to do with the use of sync (which is no crime, welcome to the future) and I color label my Hot Cue Points. Purple for me is intro beats, Yellow is a vocal, Red is a Drop or an Outro, Green is a lead break. With those on every track there's really no need to pre-listen anymore.

Hey Luke, very long time supporter here, I'll be honest, the more EDM-ey style of the tracks you play is not my cup of tea, but I still browsed through the mix. What REALLY made me stop to look up the track was Dark Chanell - Verheij (which actually is missing from the description), to just discover it was an alias of yours ahah ! Luke I've been watching some of your vlogs recently because I like how you are popularising DJing using other tools and tech (as you mention in one of your vlogs what 'techno Traktor DJs have done for years'). Given your name and reputation I would have expected a much better mix than the one I just watched. Amateurish transitions, jarring key changes, out of time mixing even using sync?!!!! Given the number of people defending you and suggesting it was the phone/software/controller I would be very unhappy if I was Reloop or Algoriddim and being blamed. Where's your pride - did you not think that mix was below par and to re-record it? How about your next vlog you disect the mix a little, I'd love to hear your thoughts on why you thought it was good enough to post.

I was planning on making a respons video for this but my team told me I've been talking too much about the gear already ha ha. I just answered you in the other comment. Let me state this first: It's super easy for me to make a boring mix. I would pick a maximum of 20 tracks for the year mix and then just mix in and out of the intros. That's DJ basics. It will be clean, it will be clinical. But that has never ever been my style or vision. I've always been about taking risks. Mixing at least 40 tracks in an hour. Saving situations on the fly. A lot of what you see here is purely improvised. I wanted to keep the human touch in there and show you how I save myself out of certain situations. This is what I used to love about the DJs I looked up to. I was right with them in the mix, thinking, what will they do next! I've ALWAYS mixed like this, even on the big festivals. This is how I still mix. I just go in, and go and mix, on the fly. The realest of the real DJing. That's the only way I love it. And to judge if a mix was sub-par, you can have your opinion of course! But let's say this: I've been in this professionally for over 25+ years. I've taught many of the professional names out there. I've inspired many out there. One can say that I'm a seasoned football coach. So then it's your word against mine. Not to diminish you, not at all, again, like people sitting at home watching football games, you can have your opinion! But by simply labeling this as a "bad mix", you might actually miss the gold here which is how to maneuver through a live mix. How to mix in the middle of tracks. How to actually use stems! How to save yourself. You only get 1 shot at clubs and festivals as well. There is a ton going on here and just because some parts are a bit loud and wobbly shouldn't take your ear away of the awesome stuff that's going on there.

I m using Engine ( Denon ) and Traktor Pro … I d like to try this.. ideal for mix set live ( like Ableton whithout warping and pre edit Your tracks like gridding ecc except ONLY for hot cue point s… ) in early 2000 I used VISUAL DISCO MIX with midi keybord.. Same teknology but “ primordial AI “ whit a lot of bugs ..

First of all, respect to you and your decision. I've been following you for years and think that you are a truly unique DJ and have a right to exist that no one can deny you. I still have to say that I think I hear that the setup limits you in your craft. I've been a DJ myself for years and am happy to switch from a console to a standalone. The freedom is expensive but you can see that it makes sense for the professional sector. I think of it this way. A pocket knife with 30 tools is fiddly and in order to use one tool you usually have to open more that cover it. Last but not least, I don't really like the Filter FX, for example. Fine-tuning and smooth transitions didn't really sound nice in your mix. "Normal" listeners may not really notice this, but I still think that in the class where you play, every little thing should be paid attention to. This is my opinion. However, I wish you continued success and respect your decision. Personally, however, I don't see this as the future for the professional sector.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, it's good to read! I experience a ton of freedom on this setup and it's just a fraction of the "professional" gear. If you would put Gordon Ramsey in a snackbar, do you think he wouldn't be a professional anymore? Furthermore, this setup gives me way more freedom than the "flagship setup", otherwise I wouldn't be jamming on this. It's an absolute delight! Having said that, I agree with the filter FX. It's been just a go-to, nothing special to it. And it's wild because the DJAY Pro App has a lot of FX and awesome FX in-built, but I never seem to get to that because it's tucked away and I'm mixing FAST. Please note I'm not disregarding your opinion. If you want to pay top dollar for something, go for it! Just realize, it's not necessary.

I'll buy into the idea of "This technology is the future of DJing" once your mix is improved vs the mixes in CDJs. Some of those transitions are outrageous and proof that this technology is barely bringing any benefits over a full fledged CDJ or even controller setup (I am the first person to love an imperfect mix but these transitions are clearly being limited by the technology not the human). You keep mentioning how people didn't believe in CDJs when you transitioned from vinyl. Well... Mixes got instantly better and more creative once people switched from vinyl to CDJs. If you add to that the fact that the CDJs reduced the hassle of bringing huge vinyls around and reduced the size of the equipment, it was a huge win from the beginning. This feels like the same technology from the full fledged DJ setups but with reduced functionality, I see no benefit at all other than the tiny size so that you can DJ in an airplane I guess??? I have seen you respond to some people saying that we should see the use of "Stems" with this setup. So if that's the selling point why are you not using instead the multiple controllers that have the Stem technology as well? Pioneer FLX10, Traktor S4 MK3, Hercules T7, RANE Four... to name a few. We want to believe you are not doing this for the money Luke, but you need to start being more transparent. One thing is believing in the technology, other thing is comparing it to the transition from analog vinyl to digital CDJs. You are just comparing the same thing now, one pushing the boundaries of technology and evolving. The other one trying to sell people into a form factor instead of a full creative DJing experience.

I appreciate the reply and love the discussion. It's a shame people think I'm not being transparent. I fully am! What if, what I'm saying, is actually the truth? That this is where my passion is at? That this is what I need right now in my 25+ years of DJing career for me to not be stale and bored by now? I'll try and be as fully transparent as I can with you. In regards to the multiple controllers: Because of my Denon adventure, I'm done with having demands on my rider. My team, Denon, and the promoters went through such trouble trying to get that set up for me every time. I want it to be easy on everyone this season: So I'm bringing my own gear. And although the controllers you mentioned are awesome, they don't fit my travel form factor. And therefore the Mixtour is my weapon of choice. The huge win here over USBs is DJing from the cloud. My library is in the cloud. So I can't lose my library. My phone is my USB. Streaming music online is such an incredible feature too. With Denon, I was able to do this too, but the players needed wifi. I have found myself in situations without wifi and I was screwed. On the phone it will switch to 5G or 4G if wifi fails. That's been a big reason for the phone too. I'm indeed not doing this for the money, I pursued Reloop and ALGORIDDIM as a fan. And when we started to talk about working together, it's only reasonable they pay me something for my input, involvement and output. I hope this is transparent enough? I say you sit back and just watch how this evolves. Maybe it will be a complete train wreck, maybe it will indeed be the dawn of a new type of DJing. One thing is for sure: I'm having an active roll in it and I'm really enjoying it.

Algoriddim really is futuristic.. I hope this App expand their full capability emproving their hardware.. mixtour is a chaos for mix in … even for beginner whit an I Pad.. I m a fan of Denon ( I use it ) and NI … Honestly preparing a “ crafted dj set “ pre analized Your track is tedious.. after you can Have fun but … Algoriddim offers more .. I think real problem are buildt new Hardware from beginners to Pro dj s .. I love this kind of mix on the fly whithout handcuffs but damn I think its not easy with his stuff. He can do that because is One of most talentuos dj s in the world ..I m a fan .. this is only my opinion . Hope new stuff 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

I get what you're trying to do Luke, by trying to push the newer technologies further but you've got to be aware that some of these transitions for long time followers & fellow DJs that understand this craft, are quite unsavoury! There's no way forward on old tech. That's like me telling you that your new car with CarPlay looks cartoonish. Best maybe stick to driving in your old car with the little LED lights. Not trying to tare you down, just trying to open your mind! I'm aware of how this looks and keeping this in car terms: This is me (not comparing myself to Musk) driving by in an electric car, while the world hasn't seen any electric car yet. It's obvious this whole shift in gear makes you very worried somehow. The "Pro Gear" is actually not very pro, please don't be misled. Maybe I’m just stuck in my old ways…I am 50 but I am struggling to enjoy DJ’ing with phones and new tech. I appreciate completely that it’s easier on tour but for me it seems to far. I’m old school and like skills on decks. My fave days were Luke on Pioneers. My god he was of the hook with skills with very high work rate. Now….im not keen. Will still listen and follow but I’m allowed an opinion and that’s mine. I’m just not inspired and blown away anymore. My fave set of all time is the rooftop set with super high work rate and skills I watch with ore. Thats gone for me.

Man, I really do enjoy your work, but I just wished you had "performed" your set more (like you did at 8min and 41min for example). You know more browsing, teasing songs, chopping, effects. Even if you had some errors going on, which actually makes the set feel more real & human. I know you can because, like I said, I enjoy your stuff. I feel that the performance part of DJing is disappearing more and more, all across the edm scene. Like teasing, playing with the music and really using the gear. Your thoughts? PS: Take care ^_^

I love this comment! And funny enough, I needed to stay somewhere in between with the tricks. Do you know that some of the skeptics on here say it's a "bad mix" because I do tricks? Because it's a super live DJ mix? They would've been so shocked if I would go crazy with my tricks ha ha. But I'll keep it in mind. I personally love all the tricks and crazy stuff. Regular mixing is boring for me.

I just saw you go crazy with mixing many times in your sets and other recordings ^_^ For example, deadmau5, hates when other people use many effects on top of songs (especially his. He says its pointless if the song is good... said it in one of his lives long time ago). But I'm like, if I go to a show or listen to a mix, I don't want to hear an album or compilation cd. I want something different, more performative. Perhaps I'm too picky, but because I come from an instrumentalist/musician background, I like to use the decks as instruments, not just as "mixing gear" know what I mean? Anyway, thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate it! And, who knows, maybe I end up playing for you and you come up with a similar criticism "that dinosaur only presses play!" haha But yeah, I like more performative stuff. Take care x

I really appreciate you discovering new hardware.. But the mixtuour doesn't match your skill level (everyone can ear that). When you did the partnership with Denon had a lot of sense, I loved your style. Reloop is an incredible brand but I don't think the mixtuor is the gear for you. Hope to change my mind! Best wishes ❤

Thank you for commenting this. As a follower of mine, I can see what you mean. But I need you to open your eyes and ears and see that I'm doing more than on the Denon setup. For instance, I'm constantly using stems here. This is next level! All the rest is me, being exactly me, while DJing. I won't change my mind, because it feels super smooth for me. Maybe one day you will, but no pressure! : )

Sorry bro but it just doesn't sound professional. Get back on the pro gear, or use ableton or something. Forgetting to plug your computer is not an excuse. You don't even have space to move your fingers. The flow, structure and mastering of the mix is not great. There are randoom jumps in tempo as well, and not stopping effects on time. If feels like there's a bit of latency. I used to do 5 times better mixes back in the days with Traktor and mapping my whole keyboard. I used to beat-match with my mouse as well. Mixes were sharp, transitions smooth, seamless, effects on time and diverse( in moderation),. not over-doing it. I have listened to tons of electronic music for the past 20 years and I would expect much more from a pro. Over all looks and sounds like a 7th grader starter pack. Very goofy.

this is completely ridiculous, you have an rmx-95 next to you and you play with this little game, I can't understand why someone doesn't use the rmx as a mixer and the mixtour as a deck controller. it's a win-win phase because you're promoting both products that you're getting paid to do and that's itso it makes sense. classic underground techno traktor set-up, club mixer & x1 type controller.

@@varunaX Ha ha yes, I agree that sucked! And I will use this to improve this in the software. Because currently you can't see the amount of pitch up or down in the song. So I thought I needed to be 2 up, but it needed to be 2 down. But having said that, I've purposely left it in, because I'm human and I think people can learn from getting yourself in and out of trouble. In a club or festival environment, you only have 1 chance to do it right. And so it's tough sometimes, but how do you fix it? How do you keep the energy, how do you save yourself. It's no excuse for how this sounds, so again I agree with you. But I kept it in on purpose and I will forever improve, don't worry.

I don't know if you're too eager to promote that Reloop junk, or simply you cannot use it properly, but mixing out of sync with the SYNC function turned on is shameful! And I, as a listener, feel offended that I have to endure this tragic mixing, even though the track selection is nice (probably with the help of DJ Studio who endorsed you as well to promote their software??) It's nice when your name work for you. But that's no reason to lower the quality. p.s. IDGAF if your "fans" hate me in the replies section. I know what good mixing is, and I am not a name worshiper.

But apparently I need to prove myself again to a different, new crowd, AND I need to really sharpen my skills on this new setup. Not to worry, haters have always helped me improve and I'm resilient. So the good news is that all this can only improve from here. I've dabbled in and out of a "flagship" setup here and there and the other good news is that all of that is still there.
