For raspiness control,it's obvious since his first audition that he puts as much raspiness as he can.Not only raspiness but also compression. There's a point I agree.It sounds often "rehearsed".Not always,for instance Come Together.I think he's more classic rock than country. '

First of all, during his time on Idol he was 17 years old the first time and 18 when he won - still a child, still developing, a fact that he is very seldom given credit for and he was competing with grown men though I don't recall ever seeing Joaquin Phonenix onstage! That's a grown man, an actor and it's only your opinion that he is a better singer than Laine. I do disagree! As for his performance during idol, again here is a scared 18-year-old from small-town Louisiana, getting on the stage in front of millions and pulling it off week after week. It is one of the reasons I became a fan. You know it has been 3 years since Idol. You should check him out. He has released his own music - not covers, has had many career milestones already and puts on a great concert. He's never going to run around the stage dancing like Michael Jackson etc, I think I would be offended if he did. All performers have their special talents and one of Laines' is his awesome guitar skills - something never shown on Idol. Yes, he is better than average, we, his very faithful fans think he is the best and maybe he hasn't reached his potential yet - who does at 22, I think where he is right now is a pretty good place.
